Product Enhancement Q213 - EAS Compressor - Noisier?

I had the suspension compressor and relay replaced on my RRS back in July. The car returned from service a couple of days ago and I found the compressor to be making a slightly louder noise. Looking at the paperwork revealed the compressor has been replaced again, a "product enhancement". I think it is the AMK one this time. Is it supposed to make slightly more noise than the old one? The noise is not permanent as the compressor stops when the reservoir is filled obviously. It also feels like the reservoir is taking longer to fill but can't be 100% sure about that one - could just be that I am paying more attention due to the noise. The car raises as normal (as it used to do before it went in for service) so just wondering if I should be concerned about the noise.

Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

Q213 is a Service Action Bulletin, issued 23rd October 2012, affecting:

Discovery 3/4

Model Year: 2009-2012
VIN Range: LA483600 – LA638965 (Specific Vehicles)

Range Rover Sport

Model Year: 2009-2013
VIN Range: LS188726 – LS768551 (Specific Vehicles)

Quote:
A concern has been identified on a limited number of service replacement air
suspension compressors fitted to 2009-2012MY Discovery 3 and 4 and 2009-2013MY Range
Rover Sport vehicles. Affected vehicles may experience reduced or no air suspension
functionality, including vehicle on 'bump stops' (significant ride comfort degradation) with
instrument cluster based warnings of limited vehicle performance including recommended
reduced maximum driving speed of 30 mph (48 km/h).

It is quite possible that the replacement air suspension compressor, installed as a remedy for the
same conditions as those above, will also fail leading to increased customer dissatisfaction.

This does not affect all vehicles, only those which have previously suffered a failure of the Hitachi
supplied air suspension compressor. The number of affected parts and therefore vehicles is
limited to approximately 3200 world-wide; please check DDW for specific vehicles when making a
service appointment to verify eligibility for this Service Action.

Action to be taken
Unsold vehicles must be repaired prior to hand-over of the vehicle for retail sale. At the next
service opportunity you are requested to replace any service fitted Hitachi air suspension
compressor with an AMK air suspension compressor, including any ancillary parts.

Thanks Bobby. I am one of the 3200 as I have a 2009 RRS and had the compressor replaced last year so your reply explains why it was replaced again. Also possibly explains the suspension raising slowly (only occasionally) even after replacement last year, which was the original symptom. When I told the garage after replacement last year they said it's a new compressor sir, everything is fine Evil or Very Mad

What I still don't know is, is the AMK compressor supposed to make a bit more noise than the Hitachi one? As I said before, there are no messages/warnings/errors/problems with the EAS. Just the compressor is slightly louder than before and I am trying to establish if I should be concerned.

I got your PM Thumbs Up

The AMK does make slightly more noise, due to the modified lower cover. There is slightly less soundproofing, and will be a little louder. It should not be substantially louder though

Forgot to update this ... according to the garage the noise difference between old and new compressor shouldn't have been noticeable so the car went back to them last week. They found its position was not 100% correct and was touching some pipes, making a bit of extra noise when in action. They returned the car after a few hours, all sorted Thumbs Up
