Shocked
Completely contrary to my experiences; I barely slept on my last two visits there and safer there than London.
I'd offer recommendations, but places go in and out of favour (or business) so quickly, so if you've got any mates there or friends of friends, worth making contact now.

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Bali Blue

View from the top of the rock is better than the empire state building. The Rockafella is not quite so high but closer to Central Park for some great views.

New York does not sleep - request a high floor in the hotel for a quieter night.

It will be cold, cold, cold and give the ice rink in Central Park a go.

Driving is easy but parking is a nightmare and very (and I mean very) expensive.

If you have a couple of days spare fly up to Niagra falls, they do day trips as well but stay a night as the views are spectacular even better if part of it is frozen.

Be prepared for a long wait from landing to actually getting to the gate - likewise push back from the gate to getting to a runway can take an hour if it is busy.

911 memorial - very moving and it wasn't finished when we saw it.

Statue of liberty was closed when we went but it's a must from what friends say. Book early in the day to avoid (long) queues!

Some great restaurants but it's a few years since we've been so I'll leave that to others.

In the main enjoy and for what it's worth we felt very safe - even on the subway! Shocked

Richard Thumbs Up

Not something I have ever fancied doing, spending all that money and time to fly to a city to have a meal, look round shops, buy things cheaper, even though you forgot the cost of going to be factored in and fly back a couple of days later

Yes, I'd like to see the things there, but would have to do it for a longer duration and travel to different places.

Everyone says its great place though I do feel I'm missing out, but I'd rather fly into Dublin and have a meal and drink a few pints

After working all around the world for the last 34 years, New York has to be the last place on earth that I would like to visit on holiday. In fact I doubt I would go back if I was paid.

Your money would be far better spent going to somewhere like Eastern Europe or Dubai!!!!!! Very Happy 2008 Black Range Rover Sports HST, 4.2 Supercharged.

Kam, lots of opinions on this one inevitably....each to their own of course..

For what it's worth from me, only been the once, spent 4 nights there a few years ago for my wife's birthday. We both loved it, felt very safe - even walking around late at night - and would go again.

Hope you both enjoy it. Have a great time Thumbs Up Carl

Thanks guys..
The above info and links have proved very very useful!

Got a booking for a helicopter tour, boat trip and top of the rock..
Have enquired about limo's from the link above, so thanks for that.. helicopter inter city transfer seems a bit dear for us!! Wink

Not going to bother with empire as everyone says better at the rock and queues at ESB too long.
Statue of Liberty, i believe is closed for refurb, so boat and helicopter view should do the trick..
Definitely going to see 9/11 memorial and other areas, central park, times square etc... looking forward to it!

Done Dubai too many times, and other countries in the east and med.. went to Orlando a few years ago and to Houston, loved the US, always wanted to visit NY, so taking the opportunity now.. Yes won't be to everyone's taste, but its something i must simply do before kids and other stuff make it difficult..

China and Oz/NZ on the cards next i hope..
Thanks again!!
