Lamp Guards

I have added a S/C Grill onto my TDV6 plus front and rear Lamp Guards. The most worrying bit is fixing the front guards - you have to make 4 holes in the grill! Shocked

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Stornoway Grey

I think they look very nice VA but ever since I had lamp guards on my first Range Rover I have gone off them because of practicality. Here's why:

1. They make cleaning the lamps harder as you get a build up underneather them, plus they catch the sponge/mitt, causing it to rip or tear. (a minor point I know)

2. You have to drill parts of your car to fix them on (I loathe doing that on a 60K car, the mudflaps was torture enough on the day I took delivery!)

3. If you bump into something (Or more likely, someone hits your car) and your lamp guards take the hit, chances are because they are fixed to the metal work, the stress of the impact will be transfered to the car body work rather than just allowing your cheaper and easier to replace plastic light unti from cracking or smashing. That may cause a much more expensive repair.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? L319 D4 HSE

Thanks RRUK - and I was really Happy with them! Crying or Very sad Wink

Cleaning you have a point, but I'll get the local Albanians to do this. The rear guards needed 2 holes screwed in the bodywork behind the lamp cluster. The front guards needed holes drilled in the grill (the only worrying bit) Finally the guards are fairly light plastic and more likely to break than damage the car is any force is put on them. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

IMHO, Lamp guards are very much a matter of taste.

Without wanting to offend anyone, I'm not a massive fan. They obviously serve a purpose but I'm not sure I like the look of them.

I suppose it's the same as running boards. I know there are people on here who love them, some who loathe them.

Misery fitted non-LR ones to his Chawton RRS because he thought that 'De-chromed' ones looked better with white. I much prefer the LR ones but that's probably because mine is Java. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad
