Metal rim from side step came off?

Guys today this came off..(the metal rim that surrounds the sidestep) I attached it back but it's very loose.... should I use adhesive or something?

very common mate, usually the passenger side as its closest to the side of the road. From factory these are riveted on and over time the rivets break away from frame of the running board, most people replace them or refit them with a handful of self tappers.

Put the car in off road mode, mark and drill a few pilot holes in the running board its self then stick half a dozen self tappers into the aluminium running board, be carful not to use screws that are look long. Alternatively you could use tigerseal or similar I suppose if you use a couple of clamps until it set.

na it will have fell off as a number of the rivets will have broken off, i susepct its getting a bit of purchase form one or more shalf of the rivets left on the metal trim.

Id be more worried about it coming off at speed if its not secured properly, new set is 300 ish or get them refitted profesisonaly if your not handy enough to give it ago, its pretty straight forward happened to all of my previous sports.

I will try this tomorrow... the metal strip is now off... its driver side...

So I drill holes in the metal strip which has fallen off then drill holes in the side step so they match up and then screw together? maybe 4-5 small screws?

Thumbs Up

Just drill the side step and put a few self tappers into the strip, u could do a small pilot hole if u wanted.

Prob easier to drill bot atnthe same Time, ie on the car.

Out of curiosity at what age do they start wanting to drop off and are they covered under warranty?

no idea, a small one that worked with the screws i had in the garage Laughing

If your not technically minded just buy a new set mate, they are only 300 ish plus fitting for genuine ones.

I'd say you only want something like a 1mm to drill a pilot hole. You just want something to guide the screw rather than have it shoot off at an angle. Smile ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

The metal is quite thick so I glued and clamped it.... I will leave it an hour... a friend of mine is very good with things like this so if it doesnt glue he will drill on the weekend.

I'd do both as unless your using tiger seal or a similar bonding product with a bit of substance so it I expect it won't last long.

My mate has done an amazing job!

He used the previous rivet holes and used stronger screws from the inside....I think he used 5 screws and it's solid!

So there was no need to drill new holes etc...

Thanks all.
