Don't feel bad about the cage/pen Muddy - they are a fantastic idea. Thumbs Up
We've had our Border terrier in one since we got him (obviously letting him out sometimes Laughing ) and we leave the door open during the day and he pops in there for a nap, to him, thats where hs lives when we go out/night time.

Because our son was younger when we got him, we felt it safer for both of them, we instilled in our son that if the dog was in his cage, he could not touch/bother him as that was the 'dog space' and it works very well.

I don't think I could have taken the boxer either knowing that you may have a potentially short time with him. Good of the rescue center to cover the bills though. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Yeap......we have used a cage with all our dogs.

It sits in the kitchen and when a dog goes inside its his quiet time.

Muddy I felt the same way as you about cages. When I had my babies they never had a cage.

Now I have this terror and I mean terror, story as previous thread. someone said the same to me about getting him a cage, awful I thought never but I did and he loves it, it is his little safe haven. He just walks off and gets into feeling safe and secure, best thing i ever did.

We have used crates whenever we've had a new dog. My (now nearly 2yo) Springer used it when he was a pup and now our replacement Collie bitch (who is about 8-9 months and a rescue rehome) is currently using it. She's shut in it overnight and during the day when we're at work - Jen and I take turns going home at lunchtime to let her out for half an hour. Once she has had her first season and been neutered then she will just use an ordinary dog bed. For now though, the crate is her bed.

What's interesting is that Archie will sometimes go in to the crate for a snooze when we're at home. I guess he remembers it as being his in the past. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Laughing the joys of training.....
Terriers are generally fairly intelligent, so I'm sure he'll learn the ropes soon enough Thumbs Up

Mine is a smooth haired Parson and he is scared of cars as well, understandable tho

I can not believe how much bottle these little guys have. Harvey wants to have a go at everyone, unless he has his ball then he's as nice as pie. The only thing is he has to have one ball in his mouth and chases the other, he will not give up the one he has in his mouth.

What a day - had to take the little rascal to the vet tonight Sad

He ate my 19 year old sons slippers yesterday while he was "caring" for the dog over lunchtime - looking at about £1000 bill for X-rays and surgery because he has been off his food today and vet thought he had a bit of slipper lodged in his intestine Banging Head

Turns out he is fine - just an infection Rolling Eyes

Only had him 2 days but missing him already while he recovers at vets - never thought a good deed would cost so much Thud

He has been doing so well - sleeping all night, no toilet accidents, not bad walk this morning and no aggression towards vet either Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
