Alloygater

Hi All,

Has anyone used Alloygater rim protectors. Needless to say living in London with curbs the side of tombstones has taken its toll.

Wanted to know if anyone has used them and what they have thought of them?

Cheers

Do a search and you will find loads on here bout them. From memory I think they were no good but could be wrong. The sport wheels are big and the car is very heavy.

Npinks beat me to it - there were reports of the gator coming off the rim and damaging the cars bodywork. Never heard anymore about it after that. Does their website say they are doing them for the RRS again?

I know for a while there website said not suitable for RRS but that is now not the case. Obviously i would rather not have a piece of plastic smashing the side of my car at 70mph lol

Looking at there video on their website, you seem to use glue as well as clips. Not sure if this has been updated due to the whipping issue?

The last I heard they were reworking the design and by the looks of the video they looked to have made some major improvements, might be worth trying them out again Question

There was no glue, metal clips or teeth at the end on the old ones

I too heard they had some major problems. They tried to fix it, but I I would. It trust it. Moreover, someone posted some photos witht the gators attached and it did not look good IMO, no offense. Vadim A.

The ones thar looked bad were the grey ones, but they looked to stick out a fair bit, the black ones didn't stand out as much but never got a side profile picture of them to compare

The black looked v neat.... the silver ones put me right off......
Convinced the silver ones in the other thread are not fitted correctly.....they just sit too proud...
Gators website have pics of how they should NOT be fitted and they look identical to the silver !!
Shame after all the requests there was never a similar side angle view of the correctly fitted black...

So I'm going to have a go with the black and will post pics when done .... but it won't be for a good few weeks yet !!

I'm interested, but £60 seems a bit strong for a couple bits of plastic RR Sport TDV8 09 Santorini Black with all the trimmings

They're not for me to be honest, but if they save the wheels, then I suppose thats a good thing.
I know when I had my BM, the tyres (Dunlops I think) had a built in alloy rim protector, but that could have just been the build of the dam run-flats it had on.
I'm surprised more tyre manufacturers haven't built this into their tyres to be honest as I'm sure people would pay a few extre £'s come replacement time for some added protection for their wheels. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Picking up my new RRS in a few days....girlfriend will be driving it....sha hasn't driven anything larger than a smart car and isn't a very experienced driver ....
So this may well prove to be the best £50 i'll ever spend.... plus the snow has just started here...
Hope it does what it says on the tin!!
Wish me.... and her luck !!!

I dont think the Alloygator things will protect against all scrapes, you may get away with a slight brush against a kerb, anything worse would just rip through the plastic.

I'm not sold on them to be honest RR Sport TDV8 09 Santorini Black with all the trimmings

again, take the rrsboy approach (patent pending.. also used for 'parking in supermarkets').. just accept that at some point you will scrape a wheel. Don't worry about it. When it happens, or when it has happened a few times, get it fixed. Simple stress free existence! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Rolling with laughter ============
