RRS Unstable/Tramlining @ High Speeds - Any help appreciated

Hi all,

I can't relax when driving my RRS on the motorway or anywhere where the lanes are narrow as it has a tendency to move all over the place. Car is a 2006 S/C HST.

From my reading I've put this down to tires, mine are quite worn on the outer edges, see below and let me know what you think:

The steering wheel isn't quite straight either so I'm thinking the alignment needs to be checked on something like a hunter system?

If I need new tires I don't want such a low profile, would prefer a comfier ride, less tramlining and more rim protection. Considering either 275/45/20 or 255/50/20 which comes on the FFRR, 275/40/20 being the OEM size.

Does anyone on here use 255/50/20? Or 275/45/20? And does it make the car nicer to drive with a taller sidewall?? It feels like the car is trying to kill me at over 80mph in it's current spec! Just wallows all over the place like a boat!

You might want to get the bushes and track rod ends checked, these wear out and can make it wandery. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

@ Martin - Many thanks, we have a workshop at work (sell cars for a living) so will get him to have a look and see if he finds anything.

Do you know of anyone using 255/50 tires on a 20" rim on a Sport? Might contact the chap on here from AJS tires and see if he knows.

I would stay with the OEM size to be honest, they choose that size for a reason! Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

I have 19" wheels for winter and think they give best ride

If you deviate from OEM sizes you may invalidate your insurance unless you clear it with them

Worth getting your tracking checked... chewed outer tyre shoulders and wandering handling suggests yours is way off. RRS gone

Will get the bushes looked at, slap on some new tires (when I've figured out which to go for, more than likely 275/45) and book her in for an alignment.

Will report back with my findings.

Had the same problem with mine, was expecting a relaxing drive,
however am constantly putting input into the wheel on a moterway.

Had 4WD align done, and found it was way out,
Things have improved a lot, however still not as it should.

May have to try brushes.

Dealers responce was everything fine, even when the align was out.
They even tried to blame it on the 20" alloys, saying they have low profile, causing the car to tram line.

Looks like im getting it done my self

Seriously though those Continental tyres are they all wear on the outer shoulder. Change them and get the tracking done, that's what I did and it changed the car
