Spare Wheel Winch - Is it secure??

Hi All,

I have now replaced the spare wheel and winch after some Censored 's stole my last. I have the new 'secure' winch with the metal cylinder over the bottom spring bit which is where I guess they cut the cable to steal my old one. When putting it on I had a good look and can't seem to see anywhere that they could get to with bolt cutter to cut the cable.

Has anyone had a spare stolen with this new secure winch?? Do you think I need to still buy a spare protector??

For info it looks like this http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic69261.html

Thanks in advance,

Pat 2011 Autobiography Santorini Black

Hello pat
Yes, some Censored Took mine whilst I was abroad for 2weeks
I was parked in the rear of the Sheraton Skyliner at Heathrow.
They didn't use a wire cutter. They drilled up into the end of the holding pin.
£750 squid it cost to replace
A mate of mine made me a simple, but effective metal cap
It looks a bit like a wide rimmed top hat. It comprises of 3" tube 5" long with one end blanked off.
The other end is welded in the middle of a large round disc that fits nuggly into centre of the wheel. The disc has a hole in the middle that is the same diameter as the middle of the wheel.
Place the top hat upside down under the car. Place the wheel over it. Then feed the winch through the hole in the wheel then through the hole in the rim of the top hat and down into the tube . Winch the lot up, job done. O, and don't forget to aroldite a hardened disc to the end of the holding pin. Thumbs Up
Best of look

Hi

My sport only has a 'space saver' spare wheel. Has anyone had these pinched or do the tea leaves only go for full size spare wheels?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

No, they'll go for the standard 'space saver' also. They got mine. Now have the the security cover fitted and so far so good.
