Evoque or RRS

Hello there and can i just mention that i'm new to this, so please be gentle with me ... especially as ive just mentioned the 'Evoque'.

I was after a bit of advice to be fair. Been having a nosey on here the last few nights, and you seem a knowledgeable bunch.
I'm currently driving an X5 and hate it. Should have purchased the RRS, but after two short test drives, i really wasn't sure i could have got used to the air suspension.
That's my first question ... Never had a Land Rover so is air suspension something i would grow to love? or is it a real 'Marmite' thing ... Love it or hate it?
Ive only had the X5 a few months, but everytime i see a RRS on the road, i kick myself.
Anyway, went back to Land Rover (Hunters @ Preston) a few weeks ago and my girlfriend instantly fell in love with the Evoque. I'm not fully convinced personally as prefer the higher seating position in the RRS, plus had a few jibes that it's a girls motor!?!?. Also not sure if i could cope with a six month wait for the Evoque.
Getting back to the RRS ... I love the look of the HST. I believe it's the 3.6TDV8 diesel engine. Would really appreciate any additional information. I have a budget of £40k (although would prefer to spend less!) so i guess i'm looking at something around a 58 plate?

Looking forward to your comments!

I've got an evoque coming in 2 weeks you can have white, sd4 dynamic

re the air suspension i wouldn't be worried in the slightest as its really make no impact on the driving experience, simply offers an access mode for getting in and out. I too had an X5 and the RRS is miles above the x5

Sorry! but how do you mean 'miles above' ... Height wise or quality? It was the general ride of the air suspension i wasn't entirely sure about. Ive been used to performance cars with very hard suspension. The RRS i drove just felt a touch soft and didn't immediately settle after a bump. Can't think of another way to put it.

Welcome to the group, I suspect my thoughts might come in handy since we sound very similar......when I got my HST I was torn between it and an M sport X5...... I took both out for a test drive and loved both, I believe the X5 certainly handled better at speed but just lacked something, soul or spirit....who knows, pehaps it was the amazing noise the TDV8 made compared to the X5. I'll never know but I went for the RRS HST TDV8 and never looked back, loved every minute of my RRS ownership to be fair.
I finally sold the RRS to another group member in Jan this year and decided to get a newer Disco 3 (the RRS was on an 08 and the Disco was a 5Cool since at the time I needed a bigger car for my huge dog.
I still like the Disco but it was never the same love thing of the RRS.......very functional but like the X5 lacks the soul or spirit and never really excites me. I believe the main reason is the TDV6 engine which is pants compared to the better TDV8.
I have recently looked into swapping the Disco for an Evoque and following an extended test drive on an unleased event I have to say that I also love the Evoque, much more than my Disco........but as much as my old RRS..........not really, far too small and lacking that 'special' something that the Range Rover used to give me.

So what would I spend my £40k on......... I'd start looking for an MY10 sport, much better than the older Mk1 sports (even my old HST), I'm even told the 3.0TDV6 is half decent and almost as good as a TDV8 engine....almost!

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for that Daz! That really helps. Ive had a nosey in the MY10 and gotta admit i prefer the dash layout. Looks very classy. It's the exterior i'm not sure about. The HST looks stunning and not seen a newer model that looks as good.
Maybe i need to have a look at a few Land Rover dealerships.

I drove the Evoque SD4 Dynamic and yes it was great ... especially the suspension, but just seemed to lack something. Kinda like my X5! lol.
The only issue with the Evoque was to get a spec we liked meant spending £42k. Slightly more than i really wanted to spend.
I think you now appreciate why i need a little assistance and some words of wisdom from you guys!

half decent 2010 model starts 37k ish defo worth the extra over the earlier models.

I went from an X5 into the RRS and didn't notice any diffidence in the ride quality, both my x5's (new and older models) drove more like tourers than a 4x4, u will get an eliminate of "floatyness with the RRS as its a 4x4, benefit of the RRS over the FFRR is that it that little bit more sportier and responsive.

I can only suggest driving one for a bit longer, i would be surprised if you were disappointed with the RRS.

Regards the RRE if you can afford the extra money you will benefit from very limited depreciation of a 12-18 month period. Its is however a good bit smaller inside than the RRS Thumbs Up

Yeah gotta admit that the Evoque felt much smaller, although i believe it's wider than the RRSport.
Should i go down that route ... if my girlfriend gets her Way .... then ide go with the coupe purely on looks alone, so gonna lose more practicality. Also takes an age for the seat to slide forward on its electric motor. Wouldn't wanna be the one stood in the rain waiting to get in the back! lol.

Back to Hunters for yet another nosey at the RRSport me thinks

I absolutely adore the TDV8 engine in my sport (it's my first one). I don't know what took me so long.

And I was speaking to the guy in the body shop today when picking mine up, and we got talking about the Evoque. He said, "well they seem to be very popular with the ladies, I think that could be the market they are aiming at"

Thats not to rubbish the Evoque in any way or say that it's a girly motor - just interesting hearing his opinion.

Oh..........and welcome - nice to see ya Thumbs Up Have i got the busted controller?!?!!?

fl2 is wider than a RRS at the mirrors at least, but then it has the same mirrors so the body must be wider too

Just been having a nosey on AutoTrader and you're quite right ... The MY10 does look very plain in comparison. I think it's gonna have to be the HST. Never actually drove the TDV8 and have only been in a couple of TDV6's ..... oh and a 4.2 supercharged, which i think was more to do with the sales chappie wanting an excuse to take it out. The gauge was registering 8mpg, so we can rule that one out! lol.

There's some stunning HST's on here from what ive seen.

Thankyou for the welcome guys!
