255 55 19 is normally the Land Rover Discovery size. I'd not heard of that being the winter size for the RRS. As the speedo will read differently I'd be surprised. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Yes I'm surprised as well, but that is what the drivers handbooks say according to the Landrover web site. Off to check the Discovery's handbook to see if there is any difference, will report back. |

I've checked my handbook and it does say 255/55 R19 for winter tyres. That's interesting as my MTR's are that size as it was the only size available. It does give a smoother ride with the extra rubber but I found the speedo reads about 3mph less at 60mph. It actually makes it more accurate as it's then spot on the road angel GPS speed. Richard, I believe 255/55 R19 is the correct size for summer and winter tyres. What size summer tyres do you have? Also what does your handbook recommend for summer and winter use. Whichever size wheel is used the tyres circumference should be the same, the bigger or smaller wheel differences being adjusted by the tyres different aspect ratios. |

It's 255/50 19 for the Range Rover Sport for summer tyres. Only the discovery comes with 255/55 19. The handbook doesn't recommend a particular summer tyre, only winter Goodyear Ultra Grip.

Richard, so you have 255/50 summer tyres fitted and the handbook recommends 255/55 for winter tyres. dont you think there is something odd about this. The handbook does not recommend any particular summer tyre, but in the Technical Specifications the 255/50 tyres are mentioned.

Thanks for the link ARHRRS, this proves the information in the handbook is wrong (and has been since 2007) according to etyres.co.uk. They recommend a maximum difference of +/- 2.5% and this is 3.39% if following the 2007 - 2011 Range Rover Sport handbooks advice for 19 inch wheels. The advice given in the 2011 Discovery 4 handbook is even worse, giving a difference of 10.3% between standard and winter 19 inch wheels. My dealer says they would never fit a different size tyre than that already fitted from new, and do not recommend using the 255/55 R19 winter tyres. Anyone know of a contact number at Land Rovers technical department where I could get an official confirmation on what tyres can be fitted? |
