Masking off the plastic trim is good if you think you'll get polish on it as it will leave white streaks which look , also good if machine polishing to prevent burning, marking trim and dragging in dirt

I would use a sponge on the wheels as I think/know you will end up taking chunks out of the shmitt and I have heard of people putting there fingers through the foam quite quickly... Make sure you use a wash thats not going to streak when it dries... I use a wash that I can wash the car and even if one side is dried it will rinse off to perfection. I would also suggest not using a waffle weave towel (unless your using it on windows) as they can induce marring on the pain work which would need ultimately polishing out. Is the dressing water based or oil based? If the latter it will attract dirt too, water based while it will wash off will be ALOT less messy..! The paintwork on Range Rovers is relativly soft (I have a black RRS to polish tomorrow) so I would go for a mild clay bar over medium as again you could put marks into the paintwork if you use one thats slightly too aggressive. Foam is a good idea but on some scores I think its gimmicky personally. The trouble is that to get foam to work your going to need degreasers and TFR's these will degrade any wax or sealant protection on the vehicle. I personally spend that little bit longer rinsing and never have any problems. I also use APC on badges and a very soft brush to clean around them. This I find works a lot better as you can buy Daisy APC in Tesco's very cheaply. I hope some of this helps, Are you going to be machine polishing the paintwork? If there is any other advice I can give please feel free to ask away! I am based in Hook if you fancy a quick jaunt up the M3 to have a chat about detailing.. I did think about opening the doors to the Unit to the RRSport guys soon... Just want to polish my black RRS first!! LOL ATB Johnny |

Wow thank you for all the help! 'nickm' yes im not sure what polish or wax is well rated? ive just always used autoglym or something similar with a good name - probably not so good product! 'Oldcro' i assumed the dispenser on the jetwash done the foam lance thing for me? 'npinks' as much as i would love to give it a machine polish i think i need someone to take me through it first im clueless about waxing and have herd some bad horror storys! Johnny that sounds like a plan! il have a crack myself over the next few weeks and then we can organise something! and if theres any other guys/girls that would be interested in coming down or up then we could turn in into a day out! Thank you all! |

I invested a small fortune in all the detailing gear, gave it a go, found it bloody hard work and not really good at getting results. In the end gave up and paid a mate to do the full paint correction detail. Best money spent, now he does a full polish etc once a month for me. Sod this detailing lark |
