What is this light?

JUst collected the pride and joy from the wash bay and went to re-adjust the rear view mirror when a strange light shone on my hand. Comes from the front of the box arrangement where the interior/map reading lights are and shines forward.

Anyone know hat it is for?

this light is linked to your headlights and turns on the autodimming rear view mirror.
It shines onto the sensor on the mirror, which is always in a pretty constant location. SWMBO owns this car I get to drive occasionally Smile

The auto dimming mirror is dimmed by the cars following you headlights, it's not dimmed when there is no one following

Had a look last night and I cant see how it adds to ambient - the rear intrumentation lighting seems to be doing that - I may need a darker road to confirm.

Agree about the rear view dimmer - why shine a light and dim permanantly? Doesnt make sense. Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!

This is called the Waterfall Lighting.

Waterfall lighting is part of the lighting control switch functionality which also controls the brightness of the switch and instrument cluster display illumination.

Waterfall lighting provides very limited illumination for the center of the fascia and the center console, when the vehicle is being driven, without affecting the driver's night vision.

I stand corrected. By the way, anyone had any issues with their auto dimming mirror? I reckon mine works intermittently. SWMBO owns this car I get to drive occasionally Smile

A little on Auto Dimming mirrors.

The auto-dimming interior mirror will automatically dim to reduce glare from the headlights of following vehicles in dark or low light conditions, while the ignition switch is in position II.

There are two types of auto-dimming mirrors.

On interior mirrors with a universal transmitter, the auto-dimming function can be selected on and off using the appropriate buttons on the underside of the mirror. At the beginning of each ignition cycle the auto-dimming function defaults to on. The green status indicator is illuminated while the auto-dimming function is on.

On auto-dimming interior mirrors without a universal transmitter, the auto-dimming function is permanently on while the ignition switch is in position II.

When the auto-dimming function is on, the light sensor in the front of the mirror monitors ambient light at the front of the vehicle and the light sensor in the rear of the mirror monitors the light coming from behind the vehicle. When the light from behind the vehicle exceeds the ambient light level, the auto-dimming circuits darken the interior mirror. Dimming is inhibited when reverse gear is selected.

Bobby thanks.
How do you find your K&N air filter? I fitted one to our Jeep Wrangler, it picked up a few HP but was much noiser.

Yes, that's about right.
A little extra HP and the additional noise which is not so noticeable because of the noisy exhaust!! Laughing Malaysia Boleh!

Laughing Yeah got it. As a further laugh, idea with the jeep was to use it as a hack car, take the roof off, up the beach etc. First time we take the roof off, go out, within 20k's she who is boss is car sick vomiting on side of road. Thus endeth the experiance with Jeep! As FYI, towing trailer up steep grass, big drama. Had to engage 4wd, low range, take it easy etc. Did same trip with RRS, easy peasy. Jeep on off road rubber, RRS on street rubber. SWMBO owns this car I get to drive occasionally Smile
