GAP INSURANCE

Got the new car coming off the production line soon and the dealer is trying to sell me gap insurance for just under a grand which i have said i can get cheaper (ie Kam100 Thumbs Up ).
He is adamant that this policy of his is the best there is out there and pays out for things that others dont etc etc.
Does anyone have any experience and can offer any advice on it

He will push his hard as they make a lot of money from it and for other extras such as diamondbrite. There are many alternatives available that will offer adequate cover. You could always ask him for a list of what his covers that others don't! WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Shocked A grand i paid £400 here http://www.car2cover.co.uk/ and did a lot of research after buying GAP from LR in the past and would not touch again with a barge pole.

When i bought my disco 2nd hand the dealer sold me the diamondbrite pack (i was easily led, car was 18mth old). Anyway, when i got car home there was a filofax wedged under sat nav so opened and phone number for guy before me was in there. Rang him so could post filofax back and we got chatting. He had also paid for diamondbrite pack when he bought new from the same dealer!!!. Needless to say i got my money back. Whatever LR claim to sell, you will be able to buy somewhere with same cover for less, almost Guaranteed. Look at the old Tesco warranty that used to be about. Same product = £400 less

Depends on the GAP that you have bought. RTI GAP (return to invoice) could (depending on the £ limit and length of policy) help to get you into another new car a few years down the line for nothing.

Eg. Total Loss (stolen/ Write off) 33 month old 2.7 HSE replaced for a new 60 plate 3.0 HSE......... Cool

Does all depend on the policy and provider. Always read the terms and conditions and the exclusions before buying. Wink

Yep, depends on what type, i.e return to invoice/finance gap etc.
Duration of cover, claim limit, and also if its transferable or lapses when you sell the car.

Ours is transferable, is full return to invoice, covers a generous claim limit.
Is cheap, with a good provider, and you can spread the payment over 12 months!

Visit: www.warrantyuk.co.uk where you can see all the T&C's.
Any questions: kam@mhasnain.co.uk and i'll be happy to help.
Thumbs Up

Going on past experience, how many would have actually made a claim on any new car bought?

We have had 4 clients claim on the GAP insurance so far.
One of my friends who lives locally to me.

Bought a RRS TDV6 HSE 2.7 in June 07 through Martin Freeman at Stratstone Nottingham when he was there.
I think if i remember right back then, with side steps, 20" alloys, privacy glass it came to around £46k after discount.

He put in £5k deposit, and financed £41k.
On a 3 year deal with a balloon of £26k.

Last year he went on holiday to portugal. His keys were taken from his home(spare key) and the car was taken.
Tracker was found three days later in a skip in North Birmingham in a industrial estate. Car not found, traced after that.

Police went through usual time looking for car, insurance company then paid out: £32k on the car (as it's market value at the time). Was a 07 RRS and this is 2009 when it was stolen and the market was down at the time, so that was a fair enough price.

He took the figure, and also put a claim in on the GAP insurance. He got back: £14k off the GAP insurance (return to invoice policy) and so walked out of the situation with his full finance settled, deposit and monthlies back in his pocket. Then he went and spent £5k on home security, and bought a VW Touareg.

GAP payment policies are quite simple, if the road going insurance pays out, then they will in most cases too without much further investigation. It is advisable to keep a copy of your sales invoice for these policies.

We sell this policy here: www.gaprti.co.uk

Cheers
Thumbs Up

Oh and yes some insurance policies provide like for like on brand new cars.. if you buy our GAP policy we can defer the policy start for a year, and can even make this transferrable to other cars should you change mid term.

Most other policies expire on transfer of ownership, you are entitled to no refund and cannot transfer to new owner/take it with you onto another car..

Check the details of the policy being offered! Very Happy

Do not under any circumstances buy the Land Rover Dealer Gap insurance, i did and still live to regret it to this day, car stolen insurance company say it is worth 26K invoice was 36K so expect GAP to pay the difference - Oh no GAP say it is worth 29K and will not pay anything other than the difference between 29 and 36, told me to go away and negotiate the higher settlement with my insurer if i wanted to have the full 36K back, total con Evil or Very Mad
