Car Damaged!

Hey guys,

Not been around for a while so just dropping by to say hello and ask for some advice.

My car has been attacked twice now and I have some extensive key/coin scratches all down the nearside from top to tail. I am getting it all in for repairs next week so that's all good (got mates rates from a friend) but my question is can anyone recommend a decent cctv package I can knock up on the front of my house. I am pretty sure its happening outside my house so would like a decent system but not too expensive - just enough so the police can prosecute if I catch them on camera.

Any and all suggestions welcome - North West supplier/installer preferably. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

I use these guys: http://www.cctvdirect.co.uk/ All you need is one or more day/night cameras and a digital PVR. Mix and match or buy one of their kits. You can put it together very easily (plug 'n play) so don't fall into the trap of employing an 'expert' to do it. Try and get the best quality cameras you can afford so you can identify the culprits; put up two (or more cameras) at different angles; consider extra IR illuminators for better quality at night; if you are good with a PC you can network the PVR and view what is going on from your phone/laptop at any time. The night vision camera glow red in the dark so that is usually enough to make people go elsewhere. '10 Range Rover Sport TDV8

If you have a costco card there are some in there, about £450ish IIRC with 4 cameras which one is controllable via a iPhone app, comes with ??gb recorder too

They also have a twin camera with a monitor that looks like a photoframe for £250ish, but I'm not sure if that records

Or try maplins, they have basic ones there too

I have seen PIR sensor spotlights that have a CCTV built in, records onto a SD memory card, this might be a little less in your face, but as with most camera systems they don't record a time and date stamp there fore not admissible in court so if you want to see the scum pay then this is a must

Thanks guys - I was hoping to pay around £200 but will get what I can with all of the above ... still cheaper than repeatedly repairing panels! WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

I've used www.buythis.co.Uk for all my CCTV needs. Don't know how they do it but are way cheaper than anyone!

Always get branded stuff & not the cheap chineese.

Digital recorder + 4 infa red cams (see at night) + monitor £365
This would do you fine. http://www.buythis.co.uk/open_product.asp?...p;Orderby=

If you need more cams then look at these

Hope this helps

Thanks that's great. I really only need one camera as the rest of my property is pretty secure. Equally I have a spare monitor and/or can connect it to my tv in the bedroom. I have sen some small systems with sd ram recording capability too not sure if these are worth having. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

Then you need one of these: http://www.cctvdirect.co.uk/products/Twili...0m-IR.html

And one of these: http://www.cctvdirect.co.uk/products/NEW-E...le%21.html

The DVR will require a 500Gb HDD so add that to the total price unless you have a spare lying around. The SD card systems are useless because with the system running at 25fps (live motion) it will fill up/overwrite in a few minutes. You could set it for time lapse but it is unlikely to be of use in apprehending someone as it will miss most of the action.

You can get kits from various sources but I suggest you stick with a CCTV specialist as they do know what they are doing and supplying. You will also get proper support with your installation rather than trying to get help from a Call Centre! '10 Range Rover Sport TDV8

That's what I thought until my garage was broken into and the patio door attemped(Nordan door, virtually burglar proof)
They gain access and no suspicion by going down the neighbours drive then jumping the wall , took my prized carbon fibre bianchi road bike, a stihl saw, some tools and a fleece!
Did another in the street the same way, but got in the house and pulled a big plasma screen off the wall. This was all done in broad daylight!
I might be taking some of this advice!
Cheers

I'll also ping a message to leedsunited if he is still around and see if he can source me anything thanks Nick. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

That would be ideal - although I can readily buy the camera and will happily buy the dvr too if it does the job? WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award
