Yes go to your local office who should be able to do it on the day, but you will need all the documents of both cars. If not it is only an extra £25.00 to retain it so no big expense. |

Paying an extra £25 to retain the number rather than transferring it will be the best £25 you have ever spent!

Agree with James, you don't need the documents for the receiving vehicle then.

In fact you can have up to 3 years at one retention payment now as I have just done this with one of mine last week. So theres no rush to re-assign it if you pay a block retention, if you re-assign it within the time then you get the remaining complete years payment back IIRC.

I agree with James, Put it on retention first. I had exactly the delay James was reffering to with the DVLA when I was changing from my old RRS to my current one and wanted to transfer my Reg Number. The delay meant my new car had to be registered with it's standard issue number until the DVLA sorted themselves out! Once they had got it sorted I was able to put my personal Reg on the car BUT, the t ssers at LR Finance then proceeded to charge me £50 for changing the Reg Details on the Finance Agreement!! Dealer did try and have a word with them about it but they wouldn't budge! £25 is better than £50 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Picked my new car up yesterday, many thanks to "sweetafton" (James) she is a truely wonderful beast. My question is I want to tranfer my old personalised plate from the Disco to the new car. I sold the Disco but the new owner has yet to collect the car and sign the V5. Would it be best if I sent it off in my name and then get him to sign the V5 once the plate has been transferred?? i would say yes, just run it by the new owner of your intensions so that he is kept in the loop of what you are doing, keep a photo copy of your log book just for piece of mind for the new owner. |

You need the V5's of both vehicles to transfer them over, unless you have these then i think you will have no choice other than retention, i could be wrong.

How do you remove the sticky pads that hold on the number plate. They look a nightmare! |
