Whistling Noise

lo all,

I have noticed a slight whistling noise when turning left in my RRS. It appears to be coming from somewhere around the drivers side front wheel particularly noticeable when the windows is down.

It doesnt happen when I turn right, I initially thought there was something stuck in the tyre, but I have checked and cannot see anything, then I thought something might be rubbing on the inside of the tyre.

It only has to be a slight turn left as well and also right the way round to a full lock, so any turn left and there is this whistling noise.

Any ideas guys?

Nah its definately coming from the drivers side front wheel when you turn left, sounds like something is rubbing on the tyre, but I cannot see anything obvious.

Ady,

I havent checked that but they were recently put back on at the garage with the machine gun thing that they use to put the wheel nuts on.

Very hard to guess based on a described noise; here's a few ideas...

A whistling noise usually signifies a wind based issue - are you sure the bonnets closed tightly, mirrors OK, wiper blade, etc?

Unless you mean a very high pitched whine (wheel bearing or CV joint or CV joint's rubber gaiter) - wheel bearing is usually a hum that varies on corners; ( get it right and the whistle and hum could get you a top ten hit!!!). Go to a large car park and drive slowly in circles; both directions.

A slim chance is dust on the brake pad(s) or a small stone between pad and disc which can also change pitch on corners; try the barkes on and off lightly.

Another possibility is that when the wheel was off they caught and bent the sheet metal mud shield behind the disc which is now catching - sound probably changes with road speed.

If you've been off road or across a field its possible for a twig or similar to get between the disc and it shield, that can make a screech.
