Would you buy an ex Land Rover Experience Car?

Hi everyone,

I'm on the verge of buying my first RRS and would really appreciate your help! The dealer told me that it was previously a land rover fleet car but wasnt able to tell me exactly what that meant and I am now wondering if its an ex Land Rover Experience car.

Is there any way of knowing for sure if its is an ex LRE car?
If so, should I avoid it?
If you think I should go for it if the price is right, what % discount versus a non-LRE car would be reasonable?

This is my first time in any 4x4 let alone a RRS so I really dont know what to do!
I've done a search and cant find an previous threads on this subject so if there are any please would you post the links up. Thanks!

The RRS I used at LR Ex was not high spec, just had the optional funky diff thing.

Do you have more info like model, spec, mileage price etc? Question L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver

Personally i wouldn't go anywhere near an ex LRE car .... they have led in most cases hard lives for the mileage they have done.

I thought LR Main agents were duty bound to tell you whether the car was ex LRE - they are marked up on their system.

when you say hi-spec what do you mean?

however just because its silver and high spec does not mean it has not been an LRE car it could be a LR Mgt Car ( enterprise, drive assist etc).

Good luck with your search ..we decided to go brand new in the end but i came across 2 nice RRS in silver in the south east both with less than 3k on the clock. 2011 MY- RRS HSE - Zermatt -Ebony-Piano .... its a monochrome world

2006- BMW Z4M Roadster -Titanium Silver

If the dealer did a fully service, brakes and disc change I would have no problems, they look after them in terms of servicing and normally have a few options added on to there spec

Its an HSE 3.0 TDV6
I forget the mileage but its between 10k and 15k. Looking at the options most things have been ticked.

Just that its got loads of optional extras. Of course, thats a good thing so its tempting. The car is still under manufacturers warranty but once thats out, am I likely to be faced with big maintainance costs as components had a hard start to their life.

2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 S Zambezi Silver

IIrc the plate may be a pointer to it's heritage, being a seasoned offroading type and having done Eastnor several times I wouldnt be inclined to touch one ! All the gubbins under the bonnet etc full of water & mud.

Firstly - LRE cars (those that are released to market) are not actually given as hard a life as you might think, they are also maintained to a much higher standard than any other car on the road, save for possibly the emergency services. For an example, if they need new brake pads - then they will get discs, pads and new fluid. They are also washed, cleaned, inspected and serviced much more frequently.

All the LRE cars ive been in (and im confidene in saying every model for the last probably 10 years) have been top spec, with all the main "popular" options

Land Rover Manufacturing has many cars it uses (press cars, demos, mules, test cars, show cars, pool cars etc etc), many dont see the light of day in the normal retail network - being crushed, some are sold off to a company who then resells them, a few are made avaliable to the dealers.

Then there are employee cars, they are often the more popular colours (silver, black etc) if they are the company cars, limited mileage, good spec and rotated often - but they will be more exposed to a normal hard life.

I wouldnt be unduly put off from getting one, no more than buying any second hand car...lets face it - just because a mom owned a d4/rrs for 12 months and ran up 12k doesnt mean it had an easy life...short cycles - high speed - low mechanical sympathy etc Mike

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver

..Zermatt these days...

I must admit the thing that struck me about the one beejay mentioned is that the mileage looked high for an ex LRE Car.

the issue about washing is one thing that would put me off .. at my local LRE centre the car is washed at least once a day and there is no lambs wool mit... expect swirrling.

If you were to go for it I'd get it checked out before i bought it and I'd certainly check the paintwork for signs of bramble rash.

the good thing is you need to be less concerned by parking dings. 2011 MY- RRS HSE - Zermatt -Ebony-Piano .... its a monochrome world

I notice you refer to Land Rover Manufacturing. The one that I am looking at was registered to "Land Rover, Land Rover Fleet" with an address in Corby NN17. Does that give you any clues as to its background?

The thing that I'm worried about is that suspension, brakes, etc, etc are likely to fail earlier because they've been worked harder. Also, the egine running time will be longer relative to the mileage and also as Andy R said "All the gubbins under the bonnet etc full of water & mud."

Any more feeback gratefully receieved!!

Best bet, ask one of these insiders to get you a Land Rover Caviar Enquiry doc. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Bali Blue

No I wouldn't get an ex-LRE car. Mainly on the basis that they are nearly all silver (of sorts) and high engine running against shown mileage.

However, I would, and I'm actively looking for, an ex LR company car. Main reasons being that they do get looked after against the unknown of private/other ownership. On top of that I really don't like any of the available colours at the moment, restrictions mainly due to the lack of availability of paint from Japan!

That and I want the proper engine, the TDV8 Shocked

Most of my cars have been ex demonstrater or senior management cars, usually very high spec and well looked after. Had to compromise on colours on occassions so trying to be patient this time. That and the guys at LPR have my list! Very Happy

Richard
