England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
black smoke

Hi.
I have a 06 range rover sport diesel that has covered 51k, i have had it for 6 months with no problems.
It has been running fine but every now and again it chuffs black smoke out of the exhausts when you put your foot down.
I have hade both egr valves replaced and a new turbo but it is still doing it from time to time.
I would be gratefull for any help or advise.
Cheers, Lee

If you only get it when you put your foot down and now and again then I would say not to worry about it, if it becomes continuous black smoke then yes worry! It could be that your car just need to go for a nice 400-500 mile high speed drive to blow all the cobwebs out if it has spent most of it's life on the school run or commuting in town. You could also try giving it a dose or two of something like Millers' diesel engine cleaner/ cetane enhacer 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thank you for your reply.
I have taken it on a 300 mile round trip on motorways since the problems 1st started as i thought the same as you as my partner drives it most of the time like you said on school runs and into town and back.
I do tend to take it for a hack at least once a week but the problem is still there.
I will try the engine cleaner like you said.

Would be gratefull of any more advise.

thanks again .Lee

Split turbo hose would be the next thing to look at, esp considering you have joined CFT (Club Fooked Turbo, coming to a D3/RRS near you). Could be the airbox to intercooler hose, easy to fix, or one of the other two, either side of the turbo.
