Silly Thoughts- Mad or Not

3 years trouble free ownership coming up, but got to thinking about the incresed ruinning costs of late.

After much looking around, one way to go without to much compromise would appear to be a Freelander SD4HSE as the mundane estate route would be to much pain to live with I think.

Deal at moment about 55 percent down pay rest in 2 years time interest free.

I know the downgrade will hurt but is it an viable option Question

Thoughts please Exclamation

Well I feel I can be all high & mighty on this particular subject Rolling Eyes (quiet at the back) Whistle

We have both types. I have my beloved RRS HSE & Mrs E has her Freelander 2 HSE. Although the Freelander
is a great car, I'm sorry but I just can't see myself swapping the RRS for it. The biggest issue I find when I have to drive the Freelander is the handling..... When you've been used to the RRS the Freelander is just so much more unstable in the corners. Also the steering feels very light (too light in my opinion). The interior quality is way below par in general & the leather feels far far cheaper. That said, the Freelander does have some basic features that the RRS really should have as standard for the price! e.g. The radio volume reduces when the PDC is activated and the £20k cheaper Freelander gets a very nice double sunroof as standard, whereas on the RRS it's an optional extra! But, all things considered I think that if you were moving up from most mid range family saloon type cars to a Freelander it would probably feel ok but, to move down from an RRS would involve a huge compromise. Most of all in the day to day driving experience. Of course, this is only my opinion and I'm sure npinks will counter my argument with aplomb. But owning both I think I am making a fair judgement. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black
2013 Evoque 5 Door Pure Tech SD4 - Orkney Grey with Panoramic Roof (Mrs E's new baby)

GONE - RRS - 3.0 TDV6 HSE - Santorini (2010)
GONE - RRS - 2.7 TDV6 HSE - Java Black (2007)
GONE - Porsche Boxster S - 3.2 - Black

Had a Freelander as a curtesy car when the RRS was getting some warranty work. This was only after about 2 months owning the RRS. I have to admit I did think at the time that if I had test driven a Freelander then I might have went for one over the sport.

However.

After 1 year in the RRS I dont think i would got to the Freelander now, nothing against it, just think it would feel like a bigger stepdown than I would be willing to make now. Fuel prices be damned, im sticking with the car that puts the Censored eating grin on my face every time I get in it.

This is something I've noticed with RRS drivers and I do it myself, drive round with our left arm on the armrest and our hand on our face /chin.99% do it,i've come to the conclusion its so other drivers cant see us smiling all the time Laughing

Your inputs seem to confirm my worst fears Exclamation

Did some numbers, present milage around 12,000 a year would save around £1,400 a year but if as I expect milage to increrase to around 24,000 a year then savings would be around £2,500 a year.

Then again except for an accountant (which I'm not I hasten to add) who else buys a car with his head and a spreadsheet.

So its confirmed I'm MAD Smile
