90mph and car goes limp - what's going on?

I just picked up my 2007 v8 this easter weekend, took her a spin up the coast and the thing went into limp mode. I was in automatic foot down keeping up with a x5 up the motorway and I read something like - engine management failure then it popped off and the car started to lose power. I ended up pulling into the hard shoulder, restarting the engine and all was normal.

I got home and first thing I thought to do is ask you fine folk if you know about this - I did not glide up to 90mph, it was a sort of foot 3/4 down and expecting it to climb to around 100, I wanted to air out the engine after doing 60 everywhere in it for the last 100miles.

Other than this I'm delighted with it, the cruise control with the aac is fab, such a joy to drive from a manual!

Fuel filter? Do a search on the forum. I think it's been suggested that a filter problem can cause problems during hard acceleration/high engine loads.

You do need to get the fault codes read really. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It has just had 4k spent on it fixing the turbo before I bought it, so I'd expected it to drive well. Its 100k on the clock so guessing I should not push the thing, I just expected it to go over 90 with no real problems, but I'd pushed it hard chasing a x5, this is what you get being a child.

So back to frugal driving and enjoying the 'could be' power of the v8 along the way. I'm bringing it to my friend in Land Rover Belfast to get it on the ramp and check her over on Saturday, this is my first ask along with why the font parking sensors say they are inactive.

Fine and lovely in all other areas though, so well happy.

Charles Hurst?

If so, can your mate get me a new front number plate and a service history print out?

Sure is - Boucher Road, I'll ask. Is it just to look up your car and print the history? I'm sure that's not a big ask.

I'll shoot you a PM. Thanks. Sorry for the off topic. As you were. Very Happy

Just as an aside, one of our Sprinter vans went into limp mode when triping up the M1 last year with pedal flat to the floor. Turning off and on fixed it to get it back, but a new fuel filter fixed that. It hasn't done it since.

Hopefully get it sorted under warranty, but I'll not be driving it like that again. I'm more of a cruiser type anyway. I just turned a kid for 30 seconds. Rolling Eyes

A sticking actuator rod on one of the turbo's would also produce this fault under hard loads.

Mine did it when it was mapped and towing. I removed the map and it was fine.

Get garage to check they are free and to greese them up. Otherwise there is a fix with a kit (s/steel rods) RRS gone

Thats great, I'll ask the guys on Saturday to check that, guess they hate people self diagnosing the problem like doctors hate it Wink But it might be the fix! Razz
