Advice on RRS TDV8

Im thinking of buying a RRS later in the year, im looking at 2009 TDV8 and just wanted some advice. the fuel side of it does not bother me as my merc is doing 23-27mpg, the things im more interested in is what are like to use on a every day basis and is there any problems to look out for. i have read about some problems people have had with the TDV8 like turbos etc and just want honist feedback so i no what i might be getting into. ive never spent £25-27k on a car so its a big thing for me so as much info as possible please. also what sort of waranty to look for.

Thanks Bigmark

As one of the few long term owners, my advice would be that it doesn't matter how carefully you buy, things can and will go wrong. I was one of the first to take delivery and owned mine from new, the list of failures would require pages on here and the current situation is well documented in another thread.
When these cars go well, they are great but be prepared for when they go wrong, as a daily runner, you have to look at running costs. Apart from annual service which runs 450-800 depending on miles, add set of pads, discs on alternative changes, set of tyres and bushes or ball joints at MOT. And get brake pipes checked, they are hidden by chassis but require body to be removed to change and rot like soft fruit on a hot day. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Thanks for the replys, so in the long run are they like any other car for problems or would you say they are more prone to things going wrong. when you read some of the post's on here it can be off putting but its the same with most car sites. you read the parkers review's and they dont tell you all the things im finding out on here. i.e what life span do the turbo's have. im starting to think do i buy one a bit cheaper and and then get things like the brake pipes checked and repllaced etc. what sort of price do they charge for the job of doing brake pipes. the reason im asking these questions ive got some money coming in aug and i want to treat myself i was looking at a s class merc but im finding my knees are playing me up getting into cars that sit lower and when i sat in a RRS i just went in with no bending down so it was great, and its going to be a car that i hope to own for a long time. as for service do they have timeing chains or belts. are you better of getting all your work dome by a RR dealer.

Having owned many different makes and models of cars, they ALL come with their faults. I'm fairly new to RRS ownership and have already seen an £1800 bill. However, i always factor in the costs that come with running each individual car i have owned, based on reading forums, how much car was when new, maintenance costs from dealers and independants, as you are doing here.

You will read many a horror story on here and other RRS sites but you will rarely see people posting up just to say 'car has been great and trouble free'. Its like rolling a dice, you may get lucky everytime, some of the time, or not at all.

The RRS is not a "cheap" car to run and maintain and thats how you should look at it. Budget for things going wrong and that way it wont hit you hard when/if it does.

The RRS is a lovely place to be, effortless to drive and does everything you want it to. 2007 TDV6 HSE

Thanks Charlie, are both TDV6 and TDV8 prone to the same faults? and i see someone say that in 2009 it doesnt have the same problems as the earlyer one's because of RR sorting out some of the problems, is this true i thought it was still the same RR but with different extras Confused

TDV6 has its own problems, so does V8. Post 2009 v6 had tensioner/oil pump addressed and software issues resolved.
V8 has never had a facelift and in fact was scrapped, we can guess why, in the 2010 cabinet reshuffle.
Some cars go on with no issue, others are problem children. In my case, turbos done at 8000, 25000 and just had two more fitted at 49000 miles. Car didn't make it out of workshop without having to have third fitted. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

if im looking at a 2008-2009 model does a Land Rover Warranty still cover it for most of the problems or do they start saying its down to wear and tear, is the warranty only anygood on new cars?

LR warrentee will cover most parts unless they can prove it is wear and tear but you will have a record of commin failures to vive fodder to argue. But be aware, from the small print, that each claim has a value limit of £3000. You can make multiple claims up to value of car. So for £1180 quid you don't get enough to cover major failures, my bill is in excess of £12800 and climbing, but I have to say that LR will look more favourably at making a contribution if you have their warrentee than if you have an alternative or none at all. 2x TDV6. I can say that I am one of the fortunate few that hasn't had any major issues with my TDV8. I've had it for 5 years from new and my only layout has been the yearly servicing, changing tires and minor wear and tear. Very Happy 2008 TDV8, Java Black, Ebony Sports Seats, Side Steps, Zebrano, Privacy Glass, Premium ICE, Hybrid TV.

By the law of averages, there has to be plenty out there that has had no problems. As so often the case, the ones without problems are not heard on forums. No news travels as fast as bad news. Whistle
Buy carefully, from a reputable dealer and you will have the back up you need if things go wrong Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Turbo's are usually very reliable, a good many last the life of the vehicle especially if simple start up and shut down instructions are followed, the main reason for turbo failure is abuse or ignorance of following these instructions by the driver.
No offence intended, just advice to a prospective owner and other owners Thumbs Up
