Guernsey 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

May I follow up by asking about remapping generally as I would like to do my Sport TDV8.

I understand you can buy a remapping gadget which you attach to the car. It then reads off information from the ECU. You send that to the remapping specialist and they send back to you a new file with the remapping parameters which you load onto your vehicle's ECU. Bear with me if some of the terminology is incorrect.

Isn't the problem with this that you are only getting generalised parameters not 100% vehicle specific. For example if you drive your vehicle around never exceeding 50 mph the information you give to the remapping specialist is based on that parameter. If you then drive the car at 100mph the information you have downloaded to the ECU is only general and not specific to your vehicle based on stock figures probably themselves based on how Land Rover considered your vehicle would perform when new.

But if your vehicle is now 4 or 5 years old it is probably handling way out of line with the stock parameters.

So the best thing is to have the remapping done at the remapping specialist where they can test it for all the relevant parameters. You will then have a remapped ECU which reflects your vehicle's actual performance and age. Would this be the correct and best thing to do or is the difference very marginal?

If you get from your remapping specialist a number of "files" so you can change the remapping in different circumstances does this play havoc with the engine and, therefore, is not a good idea?

Any comments would be appreciated.
