Cruise control working intermittently , Any ideas pls?

Hi, my cruise control has just started to not light up sometimes when I operate it on steering wheel and so it doesn't work. I've noticed if I've had my car turned off then use it again the cruise may work for a bit then it stops again, this just started happening tonight. ANy ideas pls? Mines a 2006 tdv6 hse

Mine did this and over the course of a year I finally managed to get it fixed (under warranty thankfully). Problem used to be cured by a system reset (stopping and restarting the engine).
Land Rover were really confused as the fault did not leave any fault codes in the system. I had 3 new switch packs and clock springs (connector in the steering column which takes the signals from the steering wheel to the car), numerous wiring checks and finally they opened up the ECU and found loads of silica gel, this excess of gel was removed and the car hasn't done it since. Don't know if the gel was moving and causing some problems or if the combination of all their efforts was finally successful.

Hopefully your car will have a fault code in the system (and that you have a warranty to pay for this).

The clock spring on these is a well known fault, not that expensive, and from your symptoms sounds like a classic case

Cruise control

My 2006 Sport cruise does the same. The cruise will work fine for a while then will just stop. Turning the engine off will sometimes work but not always. Had it looked at last year but the cruise worked fine for the mechanic and he couldn't find a fault on the computer. Really frustrating. Joyfully it has just developed an air suspension fault (after driving through the wilds of North London !) leaving the suspension fully lowered giving a really bouncy ride. I will be booking it in for a double service.

Hi
My cruise control has the same problem and now it seems to of stopped working.
I have just had my RR re mapped and lowered by a computer.
When I mentioned to the guy (who worked for RR for 15 yrs) about the cruise he told me to change the loom behind the wheel as all the turning does wear out the wires and causes the problem.
He said it was a common prob and now its not working at all I had better call him back....the money pit continues to open.. CW

do you mean ECU engine control unit which sits behind the battery or any other module for Cruise Control? I don't even know if there's separate module for cruise control?

Was that ecu full of silica gel from factory?

Sorting the same problem now

Thank you

The man knows his stuff Thumbs Up

Common issue, and a new loom is around £15, and takes 10 mins to fit

Which wheel did he mean?

I used datalogger to check each button on sterring wheel pressed and at the same time turned steering wheel from full left to full right. Did the same with all buttons and with no problems in voltage from pressed button but the cruise works from time to time. No error codes stored.
