Soft Paint ???

I've been sat here wondering why I seem to have a huge stone chip on my bumper, which might not seem an odd thing to get as its a semi normal thing to happen.
However i've been driving range rovers for years and never had such a thing happen before. Yes little stone chips but this is almost like the paint is so soft in my car.
You're all either going to laugh you're socks off at my question, or agree.
I almost feel quite embarrassed asking but hey ho. Smile

The paint on RRS is renowned to be soft foxy, hence all the chips, as you've seen all mine on the front, it must of been a big stone that hit yours at the time.

I'd agree - it's extremely soft. Mine's black and shows every scratch.

Also the bonnet is peppered with stone chips from our regular trip up the A1 to see our son at university.

Good excuse to get the detailing gear out tho'! FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

There is a good touch up pen which has a filling agent in it and can be rubbed off when dry (any excess) will find the link to the site.....

I think the problem is that the paint/laquer is too hard.. If it were soft, it would deform and maybe dent a little with a stone chip but when it's too hard it doesn't have any flex at all and chips off.

A good friend has a rather lovely ferrari 599 which he brought on one of my driving tours to northern Spain and southern France.. I was in an Audi RS6 and both cars were dark grey. After 1 week of Driving on identical roads - at identical speeds Wink The lower part of his front bumper had virtually no paint left on it whereas my Audi was virtually chip free.

After some investigation, we found out that it was the laquer used by Ferrari. It was much much harder when dry than the Audi stuff which was almost soft. Audi said that they used a different product on the areas vulnerable to chipping such as the sills and lower front areas. Solution was to have the front repainted by the local Audi dealer using Ferrari paint but
Audi laquer.

Cheers,
J

after a year and a half of off road abuse (check my posts), all of the scratches on the paintwork polished out quite easily
