There are a few scam e-mails floating around claiming to be from HMRC saying after a recalculation of your tax you are entitled to a refund of xxxx
LOCAL OFFICE N0 3819
TAX CREDIT OFFICER LISA FRANK
TAX REFUND NUMBER XXXXXXXXXXXX
REFUND AMOUNT XXXXXX

This is a example of the e-mail, there is also a link to their website to press (DO NOT PRESS)
it is a scam, the HMRC DO NOT SEND OUT E-MAILS they only ever send letters or occasionally phone you, if you have given them your number in the past. if you get such an e-mail forward it onto the HMRC fraud dept at
phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk

I know there are a few of us on here who do self assessments/tax returns and would welcome a refund but don't get sucked into these bandits.

I didn't get an Email, instead I got a letter with a rebate cheque in it from 2007/2008 without asking.

I got a aware via the virus software saying there was bogus charity emails been circulated for Japan

Not sure of context of them as the warning didn't say
