Luggage Lamp = Flat Battery

Flat Battery
Potential problem. My luggage lamp/boot lamp illuminates when car unlocked via plip or when tailgate is opened, no problem with this, however the lamp does not go out when I close the tailgate, the only way it will extinguish is by locking the car. Consequently, the luggage lamp stays on if the car is left unlocked, resulting in a flat battery.
Anyone else had this?
