black smoke

Hi.
I have a 06 range rover sport diesel that has covered 51k, i have had it for 6 months with no problems.
It has been running fine but every now and again it chuffs black smoke out of the exhausts when you put your foot down.
I have hade both egr valves replaced and a new turbo but it is still doing it from time to time.
I would be gratefull for any help or advise.
Cheers, Lee

Re: black smoke

Most diesels chuck smoke out when hammered, saying that my RRS doesn't seem to......yet Laughing
Why the new turbo, lowish mileage for a turbo to pack in Shocked

Not for LR turbos, my first one packed up at 40kish, many D3side have failed with lower mileage. It's not the turbo itself that fails, it's the variable vane actuator that seizes. The history so far with 3.0l twin turbos is even worse! Rolling Eyes

Would this be a 3 litre single turbo diesel that has a problem ingesting the swirl flaps and BMW wont recognise it as a problem?

My X5 developed so many problems that I only kept it for 6 weeks , then I returned it to the dealership after emailing BMW UK and giving the dealer principal a copy rejecting it .

They got me into a 535d in 2 days which was a result at the time.

Forgot to say, the present turbo is the second replacement!! Just had another new one at just under 80k. New ones are supposed to be better lubricated but we'll see! Evil or Very Mad
