Regretful potential move RRS Supercharged Overfinch > X5

Having to consider a move to the dark side Big Cry

I have a 2005 RRS Supercharged with Overfinch upgrades .... love the car to bits but the 14 mpg beginning to bite doing 20k per annum...

Pictures in gallery of my current beloved !

Looking at moving to the 3.5ds M Sport but would welcome any feedback from others who have made similar move?

SG - my brother in law bought the X5 last year. The BM 3.5 diesel is an unbelievable engine and makes any RRS diesel, my V8 included, feel like a 1980s lump. His car pulls like a train and corners like an M3 and still makes 30mpg round town.

Do it ! Thumbs Up FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy
Ex 2006 RRS SC - garbage
Ex 2016 135i M Sport - dream car
Ex 2003 RS6 Avant - piece of cr*p
Ex 2014 320d X Drive, M Sport Touring - ok I guess
Ex 2007 RRS TDV8 - bloody loved it
EX 2007 FL2 XS - not so bad

Because it is as slow as a bus compared to the X5 bi-turbo diesel. I would consider the V8 turbo diesel but feel I would be forever comparing it with having had the Supercharged ... which is worth it just for the exhaust note with the Overfinch exhaust!

It certainly appears the 'sensible' choice .... but it's not a Range Rover Big Cry and everytime I venture away from RR I always end up back in such a short space of time !

SG - maybe you should go Full Fat? That way you'd get the 4.4 V8 diesel - a bit pricey tho' FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

I had Full Fat Autobiography 4.4 V8 Petrol before (got stolen!!!!) ... loved it ... very different beast to the RRS .... will definitely end up back in FFRR but you tend to 'serenely glide' in the FF rather than 'full on' in the RRS ... and figure I need to be more grown up to go back to FFRR Rolling with laughter 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged (OVERFINCH Upgrades) - love it to bits ... but 14 MPG ... ouch
2002 BMW M3 Convertible SMG - great but not as father of 2 young children!
2003 Full Fat Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 - loved it ... stolen !
2001 P38 Range Rover Autobiograhy 4.6 - great car, reliable
2001 BMW 728i Sport - great but no RR
2001 BMW 330ci Convertible - rubbish gearbox
1997 P38 Range Rover Vogue 4.6 - great car, not reliable

Hi Steve, after recent problems with my 57 RRS went to test drive the X5 as I had one for four years before the RRS, BUT JUST SEEMED LIKE GOING BACKWARDS, It was the 3.0 though that I drove, hope evrything works out.

Yep, the Range may have issues and maybe a little thirstier than the BMW, but there really is no comparison in the looks and kudos department. The RRS may be common as muck these days (compared to 2005/06 before you all bawl Rolling Eyes ) but it is still a great looker and still gets the looks.

Yes the Beemers have great engines, but lets face it they are not good lookers in the context of a Range Rover, Sport or otherwise. The X5 is the prettier? of the bunch, the X6 is a munter (sorry AndyB) and as for the X1 and 3....they just look cheap and nasty. The RRS 1st edition is some 6 years old now but still looks relatively fresh, the equivalent X5 looks dated and has since been replaced but still looks dated IMO even with the "new look".

Historically BMW's / Mercs / Audis etc date badly and very quickly, it seems the formula of updating your cars every (seemingly) 6 months takes it toll on your model range, at least with LR you know you are in for at least a 3 year wait. Wink

If the 2.7d is deemed a dog, why not go for the 3.0 Diesel in the Sport? Much more fun than a wannabe RR, "MSport" or not (taking cover). I guess at the end of the day its what you like and what suits you........in the Blue corner with Pedigree the RRS or in the red corner Milli Vannilli aka BMW and the "X" range of vehicles ? Choices choices Whistle

Good luck with your choice and if you do go the BMW route, see you back here real soon Wink Mr. Green L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HST Java Black

For what its worth I test drove the 3.5Ds X5 and TDV8 HST back to back when I was searching for my new car a couple of months ago. Yes the X5 is a quick car but dont be fooled into the mpg figures! I had it for a good hour and on the motorway at speeds around 80pmh it was averaging below 30mpg, where the TDV8 was doing 32mpg. I did a decent bit of town driving also and it came in around 20mpg, where my HST is averaging 22.9 according to the OPC. It was also like sitting in my M3 but on stilts if that makes sense!

Dont get me wrong, cracking car, but I went for the HST Very Happy
