Answer to Q1. Yes you have to imput it each time. As yet no fix but hopefully one day.

Yes, as documented... it's temporary. It's a diag function, so it gets reset when restarting the system.

Funny you should say that, before I bought the Beemer, I almost bought a 9-3 Aero. Decided against it when I found out I was diabetic (Something to do with the bubbles?) I just discovered this whole "you can't makes inputs to the Nav system while driving" issue when I first went to see about ordering an RRS TDV6 - I have a sort of joy stick mounted on the backside of my steering wheel in the Volvo XC90 that allows me to use the nav system anytime...
