Reliability

Hi all - we all make comments on reliability with our beloved RRS and there are those that are on the site that openly boast that their BMW's / Porsche Cayennes are the dogs ......

Just thought I would share couple of stories with you all. Guy at work just took delivery of his £40k 5 series with all the toys. He's done just over a 1000 miles and boom - towed away with total electrical failure, BMW still got the car and he's no idea yet when it's coming back. Another guy at work has had his X6 3.0d for 6 months and he's been back to the dealers more times than the postman, electrical , tracking and paintwork issues. Both of these guys gave me the drug dealer & it will break down lines when I bought the RRS but 11.5 months and 26000 miles later I haven't had an issue. Plus mine looks the nuts and the X6 just looks a little weird. The 5 series is nice but a bit bland looking ( not like the aggressive 7 series which I do like).
Our company have many BMW's both private and company and these are not isolated cases of problems.
Just thought that I would let us poor RRS owners know that life on the other side is not as blissful as some would try to make us believe.

For what it's worth I would not swap the RRS for anything (within reason) and it's my first and I have no blind brand loyalty that some of us get accused of. Thumbs Up 2016 MY16.5 HSE, 21" Rims, Waitamo Grey, Cirrus Leather, Extended Leather, Meridian sound

Something that most loyalists to the fold already know.

All manufacturers have issues, ALL. I have had a ridiculous number of cars over the past 18 years and the most unreliable of them all IMO........BMW. I have owned 4 of which 2 were utter lemons, one I owned for 4 months of which it was in the stealers for 3 months with total electronic meltdown (7 series) a horrendous car and the last one being a 535d 2007 which was pure trash in both comfort and quality terms.

As much as they have had grumbles, all that I have owned recently in terms of the RR, RRS, D3 and the baby of the family, the F2 have been outstanding, it somewhat irks me to say it, but the F2 had 38k warranty free miles, not one single thing went wrong, EVER! Shocked An amazingly built car.

Its all about prior models in most cases and therefore perception that still haunt LR, lest us not forget and as much as we loved them EVEN then, they were lucky they were not deserted by the faithful for turning our some utter Censored in the dark days, they are a million miles away from those days now, but memories do still remain, much the same as they will now remain with me for BMW with their overpriced cars, Fords and Vauxhalls are just as good today for half the money. Very Happy

For me and in terms of presence, looks, interior (current) and drivability, the LR/RR current range has in one way or another got them all beat. L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

Like the last top gear...no two used cars are the same.

But talking about BMW's I've got a 120d m sport which I bought new in 2005 and its covered an amazing 220,000 miles without 1 problem! I justs cant believe it, hasn't even got a hint of a problem ... makes for a great run around in my humble opinion. The RRS on the other hand Big Cry

Surprised WW given your many posts on your RRS knocking issue that you would call it outstanding? Shocked

Proir to the RRS i had a Vauxhall Antara, for those who may not know it's very similar to a Chevolet Captiva in fact they are built in the same factory. On two occasions whilst driving around roundabouts the power steering locked up nearly causing an accident. Took it into Vauxhall's as it was under warranty only to be told after collecting the car that no fault could be found. In the space of a couple of months it happened again a further 3 times all when approaching roundabouts, it was the last straw when the wife was driving with the Kids she refused to drive it! and to think I traded in my ageing D3 for this piece of Censored The point is Vauxhall knew there was a serious problem but didn,t want to know! and after reading a Vauxhall forum I soon found out this was not an isolated case. The moral of the story don't buy Vauxhall! but I dont need to tell you that who would after driving an RRS. BLACK RRS HST 3.6 MY08

not surprised at Vauxhall to be honest, a close friend in Wycombe had a Isuzu Trooper, originally he had the Vauxhall badged version, they had no idea how to repair or service it, he traded it in with Isuzu, got the same vehicle with a different badge on the front and a far better technical and customer service attitude...

Two of the worse company cars i ever drove, BMW323 (overpriced, under performed and guzzled oil) and a Vauxhall Cavalier V6 2.5 (down right dangerous and to twitchy on straight roads Shocked ) Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

lot of bmw bashing on here Neutral

only have RRS a few weeks but ive owned and driven BMW for 12 years and all i can say is the cars i have owned and stil own are fantastic. I know others have had their problems with them but i dont think any manufacturer can claim to be perfect.

I was merely pointing out to those on this forum that pay homage to the blue and White propeller that they aren't perfect ! I have had 3 beemers and loved them but had issues (lots of them) with 2 of them .

Don't want to BMW bash but do want to point out that no car is perfect 2016 MY16.5 HSE, 21" Rims, Waitamo Grey, Cirrus Leather, Extended Leather, Meridian sound

.........which sums up everything nicely. Thumbs Up

Visit other car related forums / websites and they do seem to pay homage to their preferred brand, there are great hostilities between the Audi, Merc and BMW fraternity and probably will be until the end of time, the hilarity is that in most cases and with their restricted grammatical abilities, it can only be likened to a playground full of 9 year olds.....something you would never see on this site, naturally...........
