Non owner ready to buy with some Qs

Hi All, I am not a Range Rover Sport owner just yet but am looking out for the right one. I currently have a lovely BMW 530d M Sport (Remapped) which I like allot but due to another baby on the way I want more space & comfort. In general the BMW's fuel economy is pretty good, ranging from 25-35mpg depending on how hard you put your foot down.

I have a few questions for you all and wondered if you "The owners" could help me out.

1) What are the known issues on the Rangers to look out for when buying?
2) Will the price be coming down at all this year if buying private?
3) What's the reliability like?
4) Can you have the option of 2 extra seats in the boot area like the Discovery to make it a 7 seated?
5) With the diesel in mind, what sort of MPG are you guys getting around town and long distance motorway driving?

Thanks in advance Smile

1. There are a number of known issues - most especially the infamous suspension knock.
2. Prices tend to drop in spring/summer for obvious reasons and also a new 3.0 V6 was introduced in 2009.
3. Some RRS owners on the Forum have found their cars have proved to be totally reliable and others absolute nightmares.
4. You cant have additional seats in the boot.
5. My TDV8 does 20/21mpg urban and averages 24/25mpg overall.

Check out the search facility on the site. It really is a wealth of valuable info about peoples ownership experiences.

Im sure others will be along soon with their two-penneth. Thumbs Up FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

If your coming from a remapped 530d you should look for a TDV8, and you can always get that remapped too. What sort of budget/age are you looking for? WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Sounds like a Discovery would suit you better with a growing family, seven seats are a great asset...and the car looks better as well Whistle

ELD70 - Owned a Discovery from 2006 - 2008 and I loved It, but even with my growing family (And g3gsb's) the 7 seats are more of a pain than a blessing. From brand new the 2 seats in the back were seldom used and you couldn't get child seats in them. I didn't have my son at that time but I cannot see what would make them easier. Although, definitely better then our current Insignia. A great car though.

Not having a go at you, just giving my opinion Thumbs Up
