Why do I want to suck the oil out? To save having to go under the RRS and remove the plug to drain the oil for an oil change, not out of the dipstick holder.

You aren't missing anything not having a dipstick - the 2.7TDv6's dip stick was the most useless thing I have ever encountered - the 2007 TDV8's was a bit better. I put it down to the engine being of French (it's a Ford PSA joint design) origin - the 2010 TDv8 in my FFRR has a dip stick and it's the same useless article I had in the 2.7TDv6 RRS! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
