How many owners?

I am currently looking at buying a range rover sport and have been considering a 2008 2.7 HSE with 24k miles, full main dealer history but its already had three owners which concerns me.
I normally go for one owner cars, should i be worried about a car with 'so many' owners in such a relatively short timescale.
I'm guessing some people can't stomach the running costs for too long.....

Ex hire car? ask who the owners are..
It could be completely Normal.

LR as an ex demo/management car, then two owners in 2.5 years isn't so weird?

I think it's good to look into the Why 3 owners. LR should be able to give you the full service records of all the maintenance done on it (I mean individual work, not service stamps) - I presume if it's a long horrible list it could imply reliability issues? (and then run away!). But if the maintenance records look normal and they are giving you a decent warranty then... go for it. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Thanks for the advice.
The car isn't in a main dealer so if i approach my nearest LR dealer will they divulge service information, If so i presume i just need the reg number?

Cheeky question, how much are you paying?

I ask because I'm looking at one very similar and want to know I'm getting a half decent deal. Whistle

Its up for 32k but i'm not intending to pay that if it gets that far....
There are a couple others which i'm considering but the one mentioned is closest.
I was interested in a choice of four at Farnells but they've sold the lot, all 2008 @ around £34k

there's no hard and fast rule. A single owner car might have been driven just for short trips around town which won't have done the engine any favours. Demo cars are another example.. some are looked after by the dealer, others are giving a good seeing to by whichever member of staff takes it home for the weekend.

And no I wasn't referring to James Lookers there.

Three owners would not bother me. It might of been a dealer demonstrator or could have been pre registered to get numbers up. Then another has it for a year then a third for a year and a half. I change cars on average every 12 months

I bought a 3 previous owner 2007/8 TDV6 with 40K miles on it a few months ago.

I had exactly the same concerns.

My understanding is, however, that unlike Audi who have a central computer on which all service/warranty details undertaken by main dealers are stored, LR do not have this. The service/warranty details for the car are kept by the dealers who do the work.

LRCS were useless except to repeat the aforementioned!

So, in order to get an idea of what has been done to the car, you need to know who has done the work. This isn't easy to find out if the previous owner has not made this information available, or conversely, provided the selling dealer with this information.

This strikes me as highly unsatisfactory and surely, against some consumer regulation somewhere. Relying on your statutory rights to "get you through the deal" doesn't engender a lot of confidence in the process.

In my particular case, I've had no problems with my car, but then it came backed up with residual and topped up warranty.

I can't see how you would ever take the risk not purchasing a RRS without a warranty this being the case.

So, it wouldn't necessarily put me off the transaction at all...I knew the guy selling mine had just bought a MY2010 car....but it isn't easy to discover whether it should.

A 3 owner car in 3 years isnt excessive. Most of these cars are ex demos therefore 2 owners in 3 years isnt bad. I generally change my RRS every 6 months so if everybody did the same it would have 6 owners in 3 years not because its a problem car but people to like change. I don't personally thing 3 owners is excessive and dont see why your worrying. If you have a concern you should buy a new one so you know the full cars history or your never end up buying a car because you will never know a used cars full history only what you what to believe.
