PTI/Bluetooth problems...

Hi all

Some time lurker and new member, just bought a '55 Java Black 4.2 SC and really loving it so far but not having much luck with getting a 'phone set up.

After reading on here and elsewhere I bought Nokia 6230i and cradle, added a SIM and connected to the car but get "No Phone Fitted" when I press the button on the dash?

Turned phone on and off couple of times, reseated the cradle but still the same. Battery starts charging as soon as it's connected so it is getting power from the car.

Tried pairing via Bluetooth, came back with "No Device Found". As a cross-check I tried pairing my iPhone via BT but that didn't discover the RRS either Sad

Apologies for starting with a request for help, I did do a search too but no luck so any pointers/suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Ali

Hi Ali

I have the same problem. I too bought a S/C in the week and cant find the RRS bluetooth with my Blackberry or my girlfriends Samsung Tocco Ultra. Both of which are LR tested and approved phones.

I hoped it would be as easy as searching and adding the passcode 2121 but it seems not.

My last 2 cars have been Mercedes and paring in them was a pain, i guess it will be in the RRS also.

I am thinking of taking mine in to LR and asking them to verify that the PTI is working ok.

Let me know if you get sucess. Your not alone here Sad

Cheers & best of luck

Carl

Hi Carl

Seems like factory fitted 'phone integration is very hit & miss regardless of the make; I had a BMW 530i Sport before & connecting the 'phone would drain the battery!

On another forum a guy suggested to try it with the engine on rather than just ignition to position II and to check the fuse so will do that this morning. If no luck then LR for me too, have to visit them for a part fitting anyway.

Will keep you informed!

I'm considering pulling the fuse in the glovebook to hopefully "reset" the bluetooth and see if that helps.

Let me know what LR say

Carl

Right, tried it with engine running, no luck. Took out the fuse (Number 52, 5 Amp) & replaced it with a new one, when I turned the car on & pressed the 'phone button on the dash it flashed "Phone Removed" for a few seconds then went back to "No Phone Fitted" Sad

Turned 'phone on & off, removed & reconnected, had another go trying to pair with BT but still nothing.

Will let you know how I get on at the dealers.

Ali

I have done the same and no luck either.

I noticed i have a fitted connection in the centre arm rest which i assume is for a wired phone cradle, perhaps bluetooth is off when this is fitted ?. Just guessing here though.

When are you at the dealers ?.

Hi

I don't think having the cradle has any bearing on the Bluetooth, the .PDF I d/loaded about LR PTI/BT mentions use of both methods interchangeably.

Waiting for a pre-tensioner to arrive at the dealership (should be early this week) then will book it in, keep you guys informed.

Ali

Pairing isn't normally a pain, in my 2007MY very occasionally the phone wouldn't pair, the problem was frequently getting the phone to stop being paired to the car after I had got out of it at home, even with the ignition turned off sometimes it would stay paired to the car for ages afterward!
The cradle has no bearing on the B/T. There were not a lot of cradle designs and this that there were were mainly for Nokia designs as the car's system was made by them ( they were the most popular brand back before Smartphones became common after all). What you will need is a "sub cradle" to hold the phone in the bit under the armrest as they where like an adapter for different phone designs if you want to use that system - which also charges your phone at the same time. Cradles occasionally come up on eBay. Maybe Bobby can help with a wiring diagram for the old system which would allow you to find and check all the connections in the boot. If you need a new B/T unit then be careful if you are buying on eBay as IIRC there are two units - only one gives full connectivity, the other doesn't transfer phone books etc. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi Tim

I have the cradle you mention + one of the Nokia handsets listed as supported but no joy for me Sad

When I insert the 'phone into the cradle it starts charging so there's definitely power being supplied?

Not fussed about Bluetooth, would be happy to just get the 'phone working via the cradle Confused

I asked my local LR dealer today and they said "bring it in we can check functionality for £60".

The LR dealer who has serviced the car from new confirms that the software updates are the latest available so it should be fine.

That said, when i asked them to confirm a recent "full" (in their words) diagnostic check included the phone system they said no it didn't. Some "full" check LOL !!

I want Bluetooth, the cradle option isn't suitable for my Blackberry.

Hi

Not yet, called them y'day but they're still awaiting the part I need (pre-tensioner) from LR. Did spot something on another forum which I'm going to try though; stated the 'phone has to be switched to the Handsfree profile whilst connected to the cradle on first time usage for it to be 'recognised'.

Maybe the same is applicable for Bluetooth?

My phone is set to handsfree and nothing.

I have been advised by a LR dealer to unplug the module in the rear (OSR) and reset that way. Removing the fuse makes no difference. I am going to try this tomorrow.

A new module is about £175 from LR so hopefully resetting will do the trick.
