Auto Lights Problem???

Anyone ever had these go up the spout? Driving back from Carlisle today and noticed the headlights where on. Weather was fine and nice sunshine so no reason to be on. It's like the sensor has gone!!

Anyone experienced this before?

Very strange. Turned off and back on but still on. Haven't tried after car turned off yet as it was dark by the time I got in. Will try again tomorrow and see if it's reset.

Happens to me every now and again. They often stay on when exiting a tunnel for example even in bright daylight. I just ignore it now. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Least it's not just me.

Anyone know where the sensor is? Maybe as said it's covered with muck! It definatly wasn't dark enough to stay on.

If same as on D3 (a RRS being a D3 in drag) there are sensors in the rear view mirror looking through windscreen. Will give mine a clean tomorrow once it's got above freezing. Sad

AUTOMATIC HEADLAMP OPERATION

The automatic headlamp function is a driver assistance system. The driver can override the system operation by selection of side lamp or headlamp on if the ambient light conditions require front and rear lighting to be active. The automatic headlamp system uses a light sensor and the CJB, which are connected via the LIN bus to control the headlamp functionality.

A light sensor is incorporated in the rain/light sensor located on the inside of the windshield, below the rear view mirror. The wiper system also uses the rain/light sensor for automatic wiper operation.

The light sensor measures the ambient light around the vehicle in a vertical direction and also the angular light level from the front of the vehicle. The rain/light sensor uses vehicle speed signals, wiper switch position and the park position of the front wipers to control the system.

The automatic headlamp operation uses ambient light levels which are monitored by photodiode incorporated in the rain/light sensor. The rain/light sensor sends a lights on/off request to the CJB on the LIN bus, which responds by switching on the low beam headlamps, front side lamps and rear tail lamps.

The automatic headlamps are activated under the following conditions:

Twilight
Darkness
Rain
Snow
Tunnels
Underground or multistoried car parks.

Operation of the automatic headlamps requires the ignition switch to be in position II, the lighting control switch to be in the 'AUTO' position and a lights on request signal from the light sensor. If the rain sensor signal activates the wipers fast speed wipers, the low beam headlamps are activated, providing the lighting control switch is in the 'AUTO' position.

Same with mine early afternoon, sunshine and definatly not dark enough for them to be on. Wonder how many other people this has happened to and they haven't even realised due to it not being that easy to see that they on in the day via the dash.

I've got aux lights so when on I get an orange light on the switch when lights are on. From my07 the D3s have a green light in the dash to say they are on, don't know about RRSs.

Mind you these are Land Rovers, once the get to a certain age you spend the whole drive using The Force to feel for the next thing going wrong. If this is all I've got to worry about (which it isn't) then I'm getting off lightly!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Whistle
