TDV8 advice

Hello, this is my first post so please bear with me.

I was just wondering what your guy thoughts were on my situation.

I bought RRS TDV8 HSE in Dec 2012. I absolutely love the car and would love to be RRS owner moving forward. That said I am not made of money but really do enjoy the car and would like to keep on with it.

I recently had it valued by my local dealers and it has depreciated like a stone in water, I can appreciate it that this is due to there being the face lift and the brand new model out now but was disappointed to loose over 10K for a trade in.
I currently owe around 15K on it and the dealer has offered 18k. (I live in southwest so prices tend to be higher)

As I said I would like to keep up with an RRS. My concern is if I keep my current car than I run the risk of faults developing as the car gets older and thus increase in costs.

I like the idea of a trade in for a newer one (as most would) but not sure of the affordability, also I cannot afford to loose another 10K just like that. A couple ppl have mentioned PCP as you are effectively only financing the depreciation but it is hard to find any examples online.

In your opinions will the TDV8 continue to shed money for another year or two in comparison to similar models?

I currently pay 460 a month on hp with 4% apr.

Thanks in advance guys

Love the sight

With those miles I would certainly keep it. Look after it and it will not depreciate much more in the next couple of years.

As already said- you've already bitten the worse part of the depreciation and if you get a newer one you'll have to do it again. You certainly won't lose another £10k on yours for a long time. Get a warranty for it and the bills shouldn't be too bad either.

Keep it!

I found to trade from my 57 plate tdv8 into the facelift dash was 10k. Well for me that's another 10k to lose.

Get a warranty to cover the big failures then enjoy it...

I don't want to appear harsh but the reality is your financial decision was made back when you took the loan and bought your car.

Car loans are notorious for causing people surprises at trade-in. I have known numerous buyers who find their car is worth less than their outstanding loan. Then they roll that deficit onto their newer car and take a bigger loan to cover the purchase of the newer car plus the outstanding balance.

This, of course, just makes matters worse and prolongs your agony - there are no free lunches.

My advice would be to try and reduce the loan, either by keeping the current Sport or paying off any amount you can afford or a combination of both.

Remember in any financing deal you are paying the lender for the use of their cash and the profit on the deal - however well its is hidden. Don't be suckered by any bar-room stories about HP, PPL, low payments and balloon end-of-term payments unless you run a large fleet (over 100 cars) you will be ripped off. Many driver get hit by refurbishment costs when they hand the car back at the end of the deal - £2,000 "user abuse" charges aare not uncommon for scratches, damaged alloys, smoker's or dog hair upholstery cleaning etc. etc.

Your bank, if you must borrow, will be the lowest hassle and cheapest source of cash and the car will be yours.

I'd stick, as others have said, because the depreciation on the current car will be less than the rate a later car will fall - I'd guess at about £2k-£3k a year !
