Transmission warning & dropped suspension

Chaps, looking for a bit of assistance here from the collective

Wife's out in my car tonight and whilst stuck in a fairly hefty traffic jam on the M4 the dash did it's impression of a christmas tree, lit up with the warning of "Transmission Failure" or something of that nature, then dropped the suspension. She's pulled off onto the hard shoulder, left it 5 minutes, restarted and all has been fine albeit she seems to think 'something is moving about under my feet".

45 minutes later it's gone "bong" and flashed up the "Reduced Engine Performance" message, albeit it doesn't seem to her to have dropped any performance.

Any clues / ideas would be appreciated. It's not done this with me before and it's sods law to have happened to the wife. Coupled with the fact she's 45 miles away up in the Brecon Beacons, I'm hoping it makes it back here without the aid of a low loader...

I'm glad to see someone else is getting the same trouble as myself - then having to deal with the Newport gang.

I have to say, I've had very good service from the chaps at Newport, which does contradict everything anyone else has told me about them !

Stay firm yet calm with them and try to have a laugh, works for me. Having said that, I seem to be able to get more info (usually from here) about the problems than they can. I've always found it helps to go in there with an idea as to what might be wrong.... Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

Hi

we experienced the same fault twice in November and it was traced to the rear upper tailgate switch which had rotted away and was causing a short that eventually dragged down the battery and created these alarming faults.

if you remove the switch by taking out the 6 no torx bolts it is easy to see if you have this issue as the switch literally is turned to white dust inside the rubber, unbelievable really how it rots like this.

we had fitted a new switch (10 min job) and it has been fine since.
