My understanding is that its all to do with SEO... That's Search Engine Optimisation for the non-geeks amongst the forum!

There are usually hyper links within the long winded text, and (for reasons i do not understand) these spammmers think these posts will remain in the forum long enough for Google's spiders to find them and then provide them a higher rank in a search result.

Basically part of Google's scoring algorithm works out how many referring websites link to your site.. The more links from external sites to your site, the higher your site scores in the search result, and the higher up the list your site then appears!

There was another spammer the other day for Ford Parts, which had in the long text a link to a Ford Parts site!

SEO is big business in the US, and companies exist that specialise in optimising websites to appear higher in search results!

OR if its not SEO, then someone is hoping someone is stupid enough to click the link, the site you jump to will then download some malicious code to your machine!

Martin can probably correct me if I'm wrong...

If you see one just click the red triangle in the top right hand corner and report as SPAM.. The Mods will then handle it.

2nd Rower...I wouldn't argue with you on this as you obviously are more geeky than me!!! Thumbs Up Anyway if these A***holes have the ability to infect and corrupt our computers through these posts then surely the admins here should put measures in to try and filter them out??

Perhaps all new forum members should have their first 3 or 4 posts moderated before being allowed on the board...that way the admins can judge the real intent of the posters before allowing them free access to the forum...Just a thought???

The Boss must be too busy to have blocked it. If you see posts like these on the forums never click on the links - as 2nd says it helps them but also if it doesn't release a wave of spams to your own computer they often release a wave of spam or worse onto Martin's server or computer. Just click the report the post triangle. I'm not sure if the mods (at the moment I think there is only one anyway - VA and all the others seem to have disappeared from the scene) - have the ablility to delete these posts 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Don't you remember the fire brigade adds of the 80's where they implored people to call if they saw a fire, even if they thought someone else must have reported it! Laughing
