Just about to collect a MY08 RRS TDV6 with no roof bars fitted.

The dealer wants £358 for the bars although I'm not clear whether that is fitted...

They're also offering me the snowchains at £470 which seems extortionate...I mean I have some Wessenfeld Quattro Klak & Go's for the RS4 which cost me about half that.

Any advice on how those prices stack up and whether or not there is a good deal to be had elsewhere if not?

Would of thouht a decent set of tyres All terrain type would negate the need for chains. Last years snow did not stop mine and that included steep hills, and some off roading. The right tyres will will see your RRS through virtually anything. Many members have 2 sets one for winter one for summer, plenty of sets on e-bay.

Check what you are getting with bars, think rails have to be fitted but they are quite expensive as are most landrover assceories

Its more to do with the necessity to keep the gendarmarie happy when heading up the mountain in France...

Cognizant of the offroad capability of the vehicle I'm thinking just the cheapest set of chains to throw in the back will do the job?

Before anyone asks, the Klak & Go's dont fit a 275/40/20 tyre!

Roof rails can be fitted easily yourself - the kit comes with the cross bars. Check out ebay for parts. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Having purchased a set of bars off EBay, I returned home to find the ****** has only sold me the cross-bars!

The rails seem to be missing from what was quoted as the "Un-opened kit".

The plot thickens....

Having spoken to 2 dealers yesterday it is not possible to buy the rails and bars seperately. They are sold as a kit.

However, the seller is claiming that because he bought his car new, and that the purchase invoice listed the rails and bars seperately, he is justified in selling the items seperately.

Whether or not he was aware of the fact, that, if you purchase these items to fit to a vehicle that does not already have them from the factory, you can only purchase a kit, I am not sure.

However, when asked for a part number before commiting to the auction, he failed to provide it even though it is clearly marked on the bars.

The part numbers for the bars and the kit differ at which point I would have been made aware of the fact that I potentially would have been missing something if I'd gone ahead with the purchase.

Does anyone know if I can purchase the rails seperately before I head down to the EBay Resolution Centre?

I had to call LRCC to purchase 4 new end pieces for the rails as the ones that were delivered were damaged in transit....

Sorry sir those are part of the kit and you would have to buy the whole rail and bar set up £400 ish . All for the sake of a few pounds of plastic part that has a LR part number on it....

Basically these are probably bought in cheaply from China or wherever as a whole......

Your only option if no joy from ebay would be to source the roof rails from a breaker for £100 and if you can. Take them off yourself..... Safer that way....

God knows why they call it LR CS?

These days, no one gives any CS anymore, they just repeat what you've told them.
