Note to Land Rover over celebrity endorsement

LR would be well to rein in on their connections with Victoria Beckham for the Evoque according to car warehouse Motorpoint who surveyed 2000 people who were asked if they would buy a car that has celebrity endorsement - 2/3rds of those asked stated they would go out of their way NOT to buy a car with celebrity involvement!

For the most part Jaguar Land Rover have got things just about spot-on with the last few cars they have done in-house so why involve a celebrity who has no knowledge of vehicle design....................... OK so the pre 2010MY RRS wasn't exactly to the high standard of a Range Rover, but it wasn't bad either andat least it didn't have fake Louis Vuitton Brown leather and Burberry tartan on the inside which is what I will always associate Mrs Beckham with 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

Agree here too, but I would have to say that my RRS feels better put together and drives a shed load better than my old 2001 HSE P38...

Just my opinion though......

I personally would not by anything endorsed by a footballers wife. Not even for the wife!!

It depends what demographic you are wanting to target. Remember that this is not something that Land Rover has done (not to a huge extent anyway) before, therefore this is a new group of customers to add to the existing customers. If the VB connection causes some existing customers not to buy Evoque, then statistically they need get more 'new' customers.

True James but why alienate some of those (often very loyal customers) you already have.......................... remember "fashionable" isn't something Land Rover has ever done - and anyway what is fashionable now often becomes dated very quickly - it's one reason LR buyers buy Land/Range Rovers - things don't change that rapidly or follow fashions.

I suppose Evoque is not really targeted at the UK market, it is being aimed at the very wealthy trendy young things in Russia, China, Japan and India who want to own a Range Rover but not the full on FFRR, it is after all one of the most famous brand names in the automotive world. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Getting VB's endorsement has got to be better than getting VA's Laughing

My personal opinion is that, for LR, overall, it's no bad thing - it will get the RRE exposed to the kind of people that it might previously be very difficult for LR to capture - not their usual customers!

I very much doubt that Mrs Beckham is going to have much sway at the design level, it's purely a bit of marketing to get a different type of person interested in the RRE, and get it mentioned in certain magazines, etc...

The RRE is going to be targeted at a very much wider demographic than any previous LR product, because it HAS to sell well in order to drop the fleet CO2 level. If it's not a success they won't be able to build the bigger models any more Shocked

If LR can follow the likes of the Audi TT, Mini and Fiat 500 and produce a "must have" car which is fashionable for a few years, and shift some cars, then great - but they must have a plan once these people have moved onto the next accessory and keep up the momentum.

I doubt very much whether many RRS or FFRR owners are going to change to an RRE, I think it's more likely an RRE will be an addition to another Range Rover product in the household and for many it'll replace one of the above mentioned cars. Like this site? Spot-on Martin!

The Evoque is in a similar position to the two-wheel-drive Freelander that was announced last week. It is not there to 'alienate' or to 'put off' any existing customers, however both models are there to give their/our customers an even greater choice.

Land Rover have also introduced two power outputs for FL2, both of which are cleaner, more ecconomical and more powerful that the previous engine, and with two it also give s the customer choice.

Neither vehicle replaces anything. Both are in addition to the current range which is always being enhanced and improved. The Beckham's are generally at the top of most 'style' poles, therfore it does make sense for the association which is designed to bring focus to the new model.

I am a great believer that we will have many customers coming in to our showroom in the coming years with a specific model in mind, however once they have viewed the range and we have qualified what they need then they will leaving having ordered a totally different vehicle.

We get many customers come in to buy a FL2 and leave with a Disco or RRS. We also have customers who look at RRS and go for Disco and so on a so-forth.

Well, you all know my point of view on this, I think it will be great for the brand, and get it out of the type of owner who wears cords and uses the words 'i suspect' every 5 mins...

And who gives a monkeys arse what Motorpoint have come up with - this from the dealer who has more in common with £1 shop sales tactics than good taste......

Would we all have complained as much (probably we would have) if it were Angelie Jolie, Sienna Miller or worse Cheryl Cole?

When was the last time LR was in the news this much? We are all snobs and hate the fact that sub £40K buyers will be associated with the brand that is Range Rover....if it were Land Rover a lot would be complaining a lot less!

Rant Over!

Australia 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black

Lowers the tone and dilutes the brand in my opinion. I guess that could have been said of the Disco, FL and the RRS at the time but a 2wd ain't an LR or an RR in my book. Come change time, if I am bloody minded enough, it may cause me to move brands but to what I don't know. Maybe I will just be like others and get an FFRR so at least I have the daddy. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Must admit that sales of 2WD drive versions of Volvo XC60, various Kia's, Honda CRV's, Hyundais and so on hasn't harmed sales of those cars - maybe Land Rover is just late to the 2WD small SUV party. The worrying thing is that if we have another hard winter all those who have bought 2WD versions will be thinking " I have an invincible Land Rover, I can go anywhere in the snow"......................... and then when they have got stuck all we will hear is "What a pile of s Censored e Land Rovers are, they cannot handle snow any better than a normal car". 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Shocked NickM please do not tar us all with the same brush, some people work bloody hard to afford to buy a nice motor and your comment is very wide of the mark. Shocked

To go back to the original thread it is worth remembering that in nearly all businesses 70% of your business comes from 30% of your customers so best not to upset the 30% to much Thumbs Up
