Power Steering problem

Has anyone came across this before????

When driving the steering becomes very hard as if there is no power steering but it only happens for a second or two then everything is fine again!

this has happenend only a few times to me as i hardly use the car due to working away but it done it again and thought i would ask on this before taking it in!!!!!

Maybe the pump is on its way out or sumin, checked the fluid and it seems to be fine! Censored

Has the car always been main dealer serviced? If not, it could be that your PS Hydraulic Fluid is tired and needs to be changed, the other thing is, is the car on OEM 19"/20" wheels and tyres? If you have been running on anything else like 21's or bigger and your car doesn't have the uprated steering pump that allowed bigger wheels to be fitted on earlier cars then you may have worn out the pump 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Is there a specific type of fluid that the sport takes?

i know the old land rover could use some transmission types but also heard that this needs a special lubricant added to it to stop the steering from squeeling?

The fluid will be listed in your owners manual John, in these modern times I wouldn't use anything else except the recommended PS top up fluid. If you don't fancy main dealer labour prices (and I also assume that as yours is a 2006model you don't have any warranty left!) then there are 2 well regarded non franchise specialists in Central Scotland - one at Larbert and the other in Aidrie who will be able to tell you if your pump is shot and whether or not you have the lower rated of the two puumps (they all have the uprated pump from 2007 anyway). There are posts on here that tell you how to tell an uprated from a lower rated pump/ steering rack. Earlier today I posted the two companies above on another thread, they both use genuine Land Rover parts and somehow manage to sell them at lower prices than the dealership accessories departments and their labour is generally 50% of a main dealers and sometimes even less!

The two engineers I mention above have their contact details in this thread I replied to this morning http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic18882.html 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

If you use the search for "steering rack" you will find out how to tell if you already have the uprated system or the old lower rated one........................................ or if you are really lucky Bobby will come along and post it for you Mr. Green 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
