fuming

Just been to pick up my car after a warranty job. New handbrake module and they tried to hit me with a bill for 170 quid for cleaning and servicing the rear brakes. I am refusing to pay this as i was not told before or during the time they had the car (all day yesterday) that there would be any charge. To add insult to injury i have paid this dealer 5k deposit on friday for a new HSE. I kicked up a fuss and the bill was subsequently halved when i kicked up more they cut it to 50 quid but i have walked out and left the car there as i was fuming.

What should i do ????

Also think they have got a beef with me because i had the new pads done about a year ago by someone else not the dealer for less than half the price 16 model year yulong white autobiography

Did you sign any paperwork when you left the car? If not, you do not have a contract for any non-warranty work carried out with them and the work carried it out was at their own volition - get your keys.

If you signed the service department form and the small print states any work to be carried out at your cost you are goosed - unless the statement says they must contact you first. If it does state that they must contact you and they didnt contact you (as it appears) then they broke any contract - get your keys and go - with the deposit returned for the HSE!!

£170 - £85 - £50 implies they know they are wrong! Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!

Never signed anything or agreed to any work other than the warranty work on the handbrake. They did ring me yesterday saying that the rear discs were getting low and did I want them replacing while they had it stripped down for an extra 90 odd quid which I refused as the car is going in a months time and I didn't want to spend any money on it 16 model year yulong white autobiography

call and advice them you'll be down to collect the car and have it ready for you, they haven't a leg to stand on

if they wish to carry out further work thats up to them, but don't don't pay them any money for doing it

I have had issues like this,

it seems if the car goes in for work they always find something to charge you on,

bought my car from Land rover in jan, as soon as I got it home I thought the brakes didnt feel the best, the spoiler brake light seemed bowed, suspension error and air con unit playing up

suspension ride hieght sensor and air con unit- foc
bleeding brakes and screw missing from spoiler - £100 - I asked why the brakes wasnt checked before I had it and the answer was that they were and I said well if they were good enough why did they need bleeding to which I was told basically thats I just have to pay

suspension plays up again, passenger window making a noise, cruise control switch it tempramental

suspension compressor and cruise switch - FOC
passenger window - £100 - I was told if it was broken it would have been free of charge but a cable loose banging against the door is not

Only reason really I have not kicked up a fuss is because they have replaced the major parts FOC, and was just hapy to have the car back sorted

You could always contact Trading Standards and report them. They cannot carry out work on your vehicle that has not been authorised and then charge you for it. I would also say that by refusing the offered replacement of your discs you have an even stronger case as it is clear from that conversation that you did not wish any additional work carried out. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Well got the car back tonight not easily though but the good news is i didnt pay Thumbs Up

Spent all afternoon trying my hardest to get the car ordered with another dealer but nobody could come close to the discounted deal i got. I was told this was because i was an existing customer and dealers are only able to offer a maximum £1000 discount to new customers.

When i returned this afternoon the service department still flatly refused to release the key without the £50 even after me explaining my rights and him having nothing in writing etc etc

I spoke to my solicitor who Censored himself laughing when i explained the situation and that i had ordered a new £54k car with them paid the deposit and they wouldnt back down over £50.

The end result was me demanding my £5k deposit back as i only paid it on monday and was still inside the 48 hour cooling off period Thumbs Up . The business manager then went to the service department and returned with my key and a smile obviously not wanting to lose a sale on a new RRS.

I guess really once i dig my heels in there not coming out and it was more of a principle thing not a money thing.

And they valeted it for me Rolling with laughter 16 model year yulong white autobiography
