United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Maya Gold
bouncy wheels?

Hi everyone - I'm a newbie here and hop eI can get some advice / help. I've a late 2005 HSE on 20" Supercharged Rims with about 45K on the clock. I love the car - it's fantastic, but there's one thing driving me nuts. On uneven surfaces I get wheel bounce - no knocking or unexplained up and down with the air suspension as with many of the "common" faults, just wheel bounce - and it's on most if not all wheels. Generally the car is smooth and quiet, but on certain surfaces (like b roads) it would rattle your teeth with the suspension not really absorbing the road how it should. It's not caused any danger moments (yet), but it does feel really odd sometimes and close to not being safe. The LR garage said - it won't have wheel bounce with air suspension - they tested it on a smooth road and said it was fine, but I know it's not - they think I'm a monkey - I know they're the one's with bananas.

Now - I've rebuilt a few old bangers in my time and know how these things work, but the air suspension has me a little baffled. I can think of two things that could be causing it - the airsuspension pressure is way too high (but wouldn't that just jack up the suspension to a higher height?) or else the shocks are gone. What do the tech-heads think? Also - can the shocks be relaced independant of the air-springs? Is it a killer job? (could I do it myself or should I give it to someone in the know.)

Grateful for any assistance! Maya Gold TDV6 HSE, only 72k miles! Still put's a smile on my face every time i press the loud pedal...

No - tyre pressures are right on the recommended pressure - I had the original HSE wheels and smaller tyres originally and had the same problem then too. Maya Gold TDV6 HSE, only 72k miles! Still put's a smile on my face every time i press the loud pedal...

Well, this may not be the cure..but I had similar symptons in the 58 RRS, in that driving over poor road surfaces there appeared to be little damping, with a resultant banging from the suspension. This was coupled with a creaking noise from the suspension turning into corners. At standstill I could rock the car and hear the suspension creaking, so maybe that is a check?
As a result both arc bars and drop links were replaced under warranty, and now the car is right on the button, with a splendid smooth ride and sharper cornering. This has totally transformed the car. However, both arc bars had already been replaced before I purchased the car, so they prematurely failed and the dealer is of the opinion that there was a faulty batch of these.
Anyway, at this stage after a weeks driving, a massive improvement. Whether this is the answer for your issue, I don't know, and it is not a cheap fix, £2000.00 inclusive of labour.
But I would underline the point that whilst the symptons seem similar...it may be something else! There are many posts on suspension issues.

Thanks peanutbob - not sure of any creaking but the poor damping on bad roads seems familiar! I'll try rocking it on a falt surfce and see how it does. But that's the closest I've got yet with a comparison /explanation from any source.

Cheers - have a good bank holiday!

Hi, i have the same syptoms on my 2005 sport, lack of damping Crying or Very sad and fine on 'A' roads and motorways.
drove a 56 plate disco and this just soaked up the bumps on country lanes.
i know they have the same running gear but not sure on the ride/damping settings.
Oh and my vehicle does not have ARC fitted.
I was going to speak with LR dealer about this issue monday as I have to ring them up as the Battery light has come on and I need a new Alternator.
Will keep you posted.............
