Sounds like the air suspension compressor is over heating, it's located near the rear passenger arch.

Thanks for that. I guess with the noise it's the pump. The smoke stopped as I moved the car so I don't think it was the brakes.

If you bought from a LR Dealer under the used approved scheme, get them to check if the compressor has been damaged from jacking or hitting something in the road.

If its not the pump, check the auxiliary heater (FFBH). Malaysia Boleh!

Dealer came and picked it up. Gave me a new Freelander to drive and will report back to me on it. Hopefully they will do the Mass Damper at the same time as I had "the knock"
