I have just had a visit from the Land Rover Assist man and he told me a lovely tale about the RRS S/C when it was 1st being developed:

Apparrently the 1st batch of test cars for the lucky guys at Gaydon to drive had considerably bigger and more powerful engines than the production version ended up with. The car could handle all the torque and power that LR could throw at it and in some versions they could blow a Porsche Carrera 4 well into the weeds however whenever they stopped testing for a spell and left the cars standing they would come back to find 4 flat tyres..................... they couldn't figure it out. After a bit of investigation on a test rig they found that the tyres they were using had so much grip and the 4x4 system so good that instead of burning rubber when when pulling away, what was happening was the wheels started to spin INSIDE the tyres, breaking the seal on the beading and cutting through the valve stem where it goes through the rim............................ lovely!

And this is also why the car only goes as fast as it does... cause there are no tyres that fit the rims that will take the higher speeds or temperatures - from what I read in Autocar and a LR RRS design doc.

The speed of the RRS is limited to a relatively low speed......... because LR would not compromise the offroad ability of the car by fitting Porsche Cayenne type road racing tyres.......... OK so the Conti are not that good offroad but at least you can go there without mods unlike Cayennes, Touregs and BMW X types that run road tyres 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Would that be the Pirelli P Zero's ? I looked at these as an alternative to the Conti's but in the size I need they would appear very scarce?

I know that there was a batch of 4.4V8 Supercharged built as some made it out into the big wide world rather than the crusher, by mistake. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
