I have contacted another dealer and they said bring it to us and we will show you
where and what it is and will not charge me at all to look ...

very reasonable for them and they said if it needs replacing they would tell me as sometimes these get out of hand with dealers ,

So will let you know the outcome next week when it goes in .....

My 09 MY HST has leaking rear ace bar. Main stealer quoted £1600 approx to swap it. Found out the Famous Four of Louth do a repair kit for front and rear bars. Quoted £250 to do both so its going in on Wed. Will post results. Said to work in 80/90 % of all cases. Now let me see £1600 v £250 which should I try. Oh and if it doesent work it can go onto a new bar so it will not leak!! Anyone had any experiance of this fix?

The repair kit probably just replaces the o-rings on the pipes. These are serviceable items. If it's leaking from the bar itslef then a new bar is required. And that's why the price is so high - the bar is expensive and I think it's 2-3 hours to replace if you know what you're doing and it goes well. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Apparently its not replacement of the seals, which as you say are replaceable in any event. This kit apparently involves additional brackets and the like. I will find out more on Wed and try and get photos.

I had the same issue with my frome ACE unit, however my Indie found that it wasnt leaking at all, and the oil was infact coming from a engine mount, appartently these are now oil filed, and damper controlled by a ecu 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater )))

Job now done. Apparently what happens is that the bars themselves move in and out of the hydralic "can" in the middle. This can then affect the internal seals which start to leak. The kit that has been fitted to my HST consists of 4 clamps on the front bar and 2 on the rear. They reinforce the originals that move easily. Seal conditioner is then added to the fluid which of course swells the seals. I have included (I hope) which show the parts and fitting. Dont know if it works yet but a weekend dash across Germany and back will soon tell. Will report in due course. The front kit is £75 and the rear £45. 1 hour to fit and a tube of seal conditioner. So much cheaper than changing the bar.

Interesting. First time this fix has come up as far as I know.

I've recently replaced my rear one due to it leaking. From what I've come across it's very common that they're moist but don't actually leak. Mine was leaking so I fitted a new one for peace of mind.
