How do I upgrade SatNav software?

I finally found and bought a low mileage TDV6 and brought it home yesterday Very Happy

I want to upgrade the SatNav software / map data how do I do this?

I bought an original LR 2008 / 2009 map data disc off Ebay (correct countries), but when I replaced the orginal disc (2005/6 I think), the screen just looks like a billion grey pixels - can you help?

Do I need to upgrade the operating system to accept such a new map disc? If so how?

Cheers.

Just one other quick question, occaisionally I hear a farting saound from the heating ducts in the front (no smells, so I can be sure it's not the wife!!) anyone know what it could be? I thought maybe some kind of flap opening or closing in the airstream?

All the disc players are DVD, and should take any of the discs.

Post up the part numbers on your new disc, should tell us if it's OK Smile

Also is it definitely an original, not a copy? Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Yes, absolutely original...

LR part number - 6G92 - 10E898-ED

DENSO part number - 464210-9890

It would be great if I could get it to work.

Cheers

Unless you put the disc upside down in the drive, or the disc itself is damaged, there should be nothing to update. When you slide the new disc the first time in the drive the satnav's firmware gets updated to the latest version automatically and after a few seconds your screen comes back... I am in the US and cannot confirm that part # is correct, but it does "sound" right, unless the disc you purchased is for the Freelander 2 (which uses a DVD based navigation as well, but different discs AFAIK.)

Regarding the noise from the heating ducts, try hitting the recirculation button on and off... Do you hear the fart? Wink If so, there is a TSB out for the problem (Land Rover calls it a squeal, but we all know what it sounds like!) Dealers need to get to the recirculation flap and coat the pivoting mechanism with some special grease.

I haven't really got to the bottom of the problem here.

I have just seen another LR NAV disc for sale with the part numbers;

Part No. 6H42010E898-AE or DENSO Part No. 464110-7560

Does anyone have a way of checking the compatibility of this with my 2005 TDV6?

Anyone?

Cheers

Back to the old chestnut again guys!

Can anyone throw any more light on this?

It's driving me crazy, out of date SatNav maps added 1.5 hrs to my day today - aaarrrgghh!

If anyone can give me help or advice on the most upto date SatNav map I can get for my late 2005 RRS, it would be great. (LR part number would also be good - Western Europe i think includes Sweden?).

Cheers

I've just updated my 07-08 software to 09-10 and all worked fine. With the system on, I ejected the DVD and inserted the new one. The screen then went grey with a message saying "Preparing to install System Software. Please Wait" and a green bar walked across the screen. It took a couple of minutes to install.

I think this was the same as when I upgraded from 05-06 to 07-08.

However, I did have the nav software updated soon after changing to 07-08 to allow "Nav on the Move".

It sounds like either (a) your disk is faulty, or (b) the 09-10 software requires the "nav on the move" software to be installed. That is a visit to the dealer.

Also, for information, both updates of the navigation DVD have set the default country to Belgium. This caught me out big time!

Cheers philmw.

I ordered an official set of LR RRS discs 09/10 as I think my problem was with the first discs I bought off Fleabay (Freelander 2 discs I think Big Cry ).

The new discs should arrive today or tomorrow so will keep fingers crossed and update the forum of the install outcome.

Is the "Nav on move" the fix that you used to be able to do yourself but LR changed that in the later sofeware versions? This is to allow input whilst driving (of course from the passenger only!).

Yes, with the 05-06 (and I think 06-07) software you could do the diagnostic code (1473? - I've forgotten) hack to enable the sat nav buttons when the vehicle is in motion. With the 07-08 sat nav disk this hack was disabled, but you could update the software of the sat nav to enable Navigation on the move. With this, all buttons on the sat nav are enabled when in motion.

When I had the dealer update the sat nav I got them to update all of the modules at the same time; the most useful being the bluetooth as before it didn't get the address book from the phone, now it does.

aha..

That's very interesting. Both our phones pair on Bluetooth with the LR, but neither contact directories or call registers work, not even re-dial which is a pain in the a@=-.

So do all of these functions now work ie, call registers (last call, received, dialled etc??).

Also, although we have enabled our phones to allow and push for auto connection, neither do. We have to manually force them everytime you start the car. Was this fixed with your upgrades?

Finally, what do I ask for at LR to get these? I don't want to ask for a complete system upgrade and pay for suspension, ABS, TR etc etc data!!!!!

The inability to automatically pair was a fault that sometimes happened, and was fixed. And yes, all contacts and call lists (10 dialled, 10 missed, etc) of the phone (I use an iPhone 3GS) are now there and weren't before.

I asked for all of the software to be reflashed. Took them a while!

Automatically pairing is great, but can also be a pain in the a@=- as it pairs as soon as you unlock the car. If you are on the phone at the time... Rolling Eyes It also takes a while to unpair. If you receive a call soon after parking.... Rolling Eyes
