foot on brake, key turned in ignition should do it.......but Im not sure as Ive never had a dead battery... |

That shouldn't work if battery completely dead as the solenoid on the brake pedal will need power to unlock the gear selector |

If this is the case, I imagine I'm screwed and have to purchase a battery charger . I don't understand why this would not be possible since whenever I usually need a boost the vehicle is always parked in the worst spots to try and get a boost from another vehicle . Is it just the RRS with this design or are other sport utility vehicles like this? |

mine goes flat after a short time too, had too many flat battries in the 2.5 years of ownership

There is an emergency release procedure. I know how it's done in a D3, but for the RRS, if it's not outlined in the manual, try the GTR online.

I thought about an emergency release - there is for the EPB but i cannot recall hearing of one for gear select.....

As MAW said, EPB emergency there is but I too have not heard of emergency gear select release! Interesting.

Good advice. Or you could just carry the jump battery to the car and jump start with it. In the D3, you remove the trim panel behind the EPB switch. The 'interlock' override switch is a small white tab that you can lift up and then move the gear lever out of park. First make sure the car cannot move if the gear lever is taken out of Park or the EPB accidently released (by chocking the wheels if necessary).
