Went to the Finnish VIP launch of the Velar tonight.
What can i say, apart from meh. Perhaps the car unveilings in the UK have a bit more pizazz, but this was a occasion to shine
the dealership is brand new, and they had paired the evening with Bollinger and Zenith.
There were 2 young girls in high heels and short wavy skirts offering the Bolly, Zenith had a display case and some nibbles and macaroons laid on by a local catering company, who when asked, ooh looks nice, you must have taken an age to make these - "er, no, we didn't make them".
there was a 30 second intro by another high heeled make up plastered woman, and then head honcho of the dealership gives some spiel for 30 seconds and the 2 Bolly serving girls slowly drag off the black sheet over the Velar.
No flashing lights, no loud music, no nothing.
The car itself, a bigger version of the Evoque but not as big as the Sport. the salesman said it is supposed to appeal to those who are not already Sport owners, perhaps those who want to upgrade from an Evoque, but more importantly those from otherr marques, the BMW X4, the Macan etc.
Sitting inside of it, this was branded as P380 HSE. the fabrics on the interior looked cheap and scratchy. the drivers position and console looked OK, not too different to a brand new Evoque, Disco Sport or Sport. At 83000 EUR for the base model. I'd rather continue saving for a Sport.
Still upon leaving we were offered a goody bag. Zenith branded, hmmm, nice, a Watch as gift perhaps. but alas, it was a foldable brochure of the watches they have, the same brochure that was on every table and stand.
Perhaps Finland don't do car launches properly. or i was hoping for too much.
One positive is the wife now agrees an SVR Sport is top of the list should we win the lottery (list price of 289000 EUR here) 2019 RRS P400e Autobiography
