iPod Connection - Is it Always Live?

When I finally get my MY10, I was planning in permanently leaving an iPod in the car connected with the iPod lead rather than have to keep taking it out and putting it back in all the time (all that effort!)

However, is the iPod connection permanently live? If not, I guess the iPod will shut down shortly after I stop the engine, meaning I've got to turn the thing on everytime I start the car again... or does it turn start up again automatically when the ignition starts? Even then, doesn't it take a while to re-start?

I know you can set the iPod not to automatically turn off after a while, but I'm thinking that that would kill the battery after a couple of days unless the power supply is permanently live.

Anyone? Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+

I'd need to test this theory for you, however mine stays in the glove box connected and seems to fire up immediately as the ignition goes on. I think it does shut down shortly after the car is switched off. I've not had any issues so far. It just gets left in there and forgotten.

In my MY08 TDV8 the iPod dock stays powered for a short time after shutting off the ignition, the iPod powers down when you get out and lock the car. It powers up the iPod when you unlock the car and is ready to play by the time you have switched on the ignition. Dunno about the MY10 cars using just the lead tho! Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Thanks - that's all I need to know really. I suppose it doesn't matter what the iPod does when the ignition is off, as long as it will be on and ready to go whenever I get in the car then that's all I want. Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+

I had mu iPhone set up so it never went to standby automatically, so when left in the car connected to the lead it would be virtually flat by the time I got in to head home after work. I have now reset the iPhone so it automatically goes into standby and this has now sorted it, although it doesn't charge when left in the locked car as mentioned before.
